Question 02 wrx wagon full sound system build help

Vehicle- 2002 Subaru Impreza WRX wagon
Current system- stock + http://www.alpine-usa.com/product/view/cde-102/
Music Choice- pantera, dropkick murphys, immortal technique. kinda diverse taste.
Music Style- moderate volume, sometimes loud (drive with the windows down a lot)
Installer- me
Installer experience- Almost none with sound systems, but i know electrical basics
Budget- ~$400
Future Goals- this will be it, I have no intentions of upgrading later.

I am looking for a list of everything i would need to put in a new sound system. door speakers, under seat sub, amp, spacers for clearance... everything. spell it out for me. I have done a lot of work on cars, but never cared much about the sound system. help keep a noob from making all the mistakes and falling for false claims. I don't care much about name brands and im not looking for the top of the line, just functionality and an ok sounding system. also im new to NASIOC, so i apologize in advance if this should be somewhere else.

Lightbulb advice

I install systems all the time. your best bet is to log onto crutchfield.com and "outfit" your car. see what actually fits where, sizes, etc. then just go to your local car AV store or amazon search for the item you want and compare prices. Crutchfield is a bit more expensive but you get 24-7 tech support and if you order a HU they will send you the install directions and pictures for your car. electrical and mechanical. aids a lot whenever you are a noob. FYI

Hope it helps.
I am planning an install into my 09 Impreza this weekend myself. I will be putting in a double din kenwood touch screen monitor/DVD player and an inline alpine class D amp. I used last week and this week to do all my research and look up schematics and install manuals for location of clips and screw locations.

Nice, thank you very much. Im confident I can do all the work, I have done a lot of electrical and mechanical work, just never an entire sound system. Helped install them a few times, but all the parts were there, and someone else had figured out what was needed. Im hoping to eventually install an in-dash android tablet or something similar.

As far as spacers kartboy has them. I got Rockford Fosate prime 6.5 up front and 5.25 in the rear in my 03 wagon. Search eBay and save. Not the greatest but sounds good to me. I am about to make a sub enclosure in the spare tire to fill it out.

Watch endless videos on youtube! lol Make sure you run the RCA and speaker wires on the opposite side of the car as the power. It can cause distortion and what not picked up of they are together. Crutchfields website as well as Sonix Electronics. <--- Sonix Electronics has AWESOME prices! Sonix has really helpful basic youtube vids as well.

I thought kartboy stopped making speaker spacers. I believe you can still get some at iaperfermance.com or subaruaudio.net though. You can also search this forum for info and install help since it's been covered dozens of times, especially for the 2002's. You can get polk db6501's (around $115) and polk db521's ($55), basslink sub ($180), wires to run to sub ($20), and spacers ($30 front only needed). You can probably use the stock speaker wires (or it will be more of a pain for you to install) and spend an extra 20 bucks on some dynamatting around the front speakers. The polks and the basslink will suit your tastes just fine.

Because I am a DIY guy on things that I can make, I just bought some 1/2" polyethylene board from mcmaster Carr and an adjustable cutting bit for my drill press. Cut it as needed and came out great. About what I would pay for premises but I learned more how to stuff and enjoyed making it myself.
