Are you sure they are not out because I swear I saw one that looked just like that at work yesterday...did the '02's look the same?

'02 doesn't have a black frame, doesn't have 4 round headlights (kind ugly IMO).

pretty ballsy putting money down... there are two other brand-new 600s out and unless you're rabidly loyal to Yamaha I'd consider waiting for test reports to see which way to go.

Yeah they are not out yet for sure....the headlights are different for '03 among a lot of other things internally. Most notably the addition of fuel injection and the engine is 90% new.

Here is Yamaha's link

http://www.yamaha-motor.com/products...cy&cid=5&mid=8

visually different is the quad projection beam lamps, black 5 spoke wheels, slimmer gas tank, black frame.

Of course that deposit is refundable I'm betting it will do quite well though. I am 16th on the list at this particular dealer so demand is going to be real high....I just wanted to make sure I had that option.

those look to be rather nice, although out of the 03 600 class, I think I'd go with the F5. But either way, they're both very nice bikes.

Sweet! I just stopped at a bike dealership on the way home today...came very close to reserving one too! The only reason I'm waiting is b/c I'm not yet sure if I want a bike...I've never had one before. I'm a bike n00b.

But if I get one, that'll be the one. I'll take mine black/red!

Wait for the CBR600RR...

Regarding the headlights on the R6 I read something odd in Motorcyclist. One side (both beams) is the low beam. The other side has one fake disc(inner one) and one real disc(the outer one) for highbeam assist(other two stay on).

Now Honda and Yamaha want owners to be constantly plagued by people telling them they've got a headlight bulb (or TWO!) out.

Don't buy an R6 for your first bike. You'll will wreak it, hurt or kill yourself and make insurance higher for the rest of us.

Go to any motorcycle message board, and read all the forums about getting a sportbike for a first bike.

I like the Yami projector lights. Kawi has radial brakes. Honda now has a stock undertail pipe. Too bad we can't combine fav features from all the makes

Seeing that I just had my done-up 954 stolen three weeks ago, I'll probably get one of the new ones. If that falls through, I'd definitely go with the 600RR...

all i ever see driving down the streets are the hogs & cbr600's, r6/r1s, and gixxer 750s and 1ks...

what ya really need is the soon coming ktm 950 duke... twin, like 348lbs, and comparable hp... cept a bunch more torque which will whip the crap out of any r6 / cbr / gixxer around town...

during the day and twilight I recommend this to EVERYONE-- anything simple you can do to help yourself be seen you should do.

but when it's truly dark that's brutal to ride around with your highbeam on.

that's not a special edition...it's just a different paint scheme for the 03 R6.

And anyone getting an R6 as a first bike is asking for a hurting. I hate a 650, but it's slow, so I'm ok (even if my bike does wheelie easier than all the 600 SS bikes )

Ditto. That and a hi-viz-yellow Aerostich suit have kept my ass from getting nailed a bunch of times.

I read all about the 950 Duke in the latest Motorcyclist. I'm not surprised at the engine in the least, since they recruited the head engineer from Rotax who built the 60 degree twin used by Aprillia. (too bad Rotax has a patent on the backpressure port-- better than a slipper clutch.)

Anyway I'd love one. But I think by the time 2004 rolls around and they're available there will be some noise about KTM's (sure to be coming) superbike built around that engine. So while I like the Duke, I like a little wind protection too... and I can't drop $8,000-11,000 on two very similar bikes within a few years.

So for me the Duke might loose out. Then again if I'm still single in two years I'll have plenty of discretionary cash, so why not both?

Why? I don't understand...I know people who got a busa for a first bike. Everyone that I talk to says a 600 would be a good first bike. Please, explain your response...I'd like to get as much info as possible please.
