Default Who wants a Mile High Subaru Shoot Out ?? -- making plans now

Okay guys this is just a pipe dream at this time, but a heads up.

I just sent off an email to the contact person at Bandimere's Drag strip. I'm trying to set up a meeting to discuss what all would be involved in setting up a club day, Mile High Subaru Shoot Out.

I am trying for a date just before the Import Challenge which usually runs the first week of July.

If anyone else is or has made any contacts regarding a shoot out up here, please let me know so we are not stepping on each others toes.

I need a couple things from all of you.

A best guess of how many bodies would like to run a car at such an event.

Any of you who have connections with a business that might be willing to put in a couple $$ toward the strip fee and or any prizes, please PM me so we can start working that angle once we know what the costs might be.

A little moral support, (or even some immoral support depending on the source) would be welcome.

Larry

Ya big fat GIRLIE MAN!!! . Do you ever plan on running your car Diz? Just curious. I think I could be up for somthing like this. Although I don't expect to win by any means it would be REALLY cool to see what some of the better Subies could do. Maybe phast or pace would be into the 11's next year ?

Why not a shoot out at Second Creek... my car is slow.

It might be fun to go out and watch though. I'll bring beer.

Seariosly though, we should do a shootout at second creek too. It would be fun for us NA guys too. I suppose we could do a sub 17 sec. RS shootout too though

Depending on the cost (I'm poor), I would be in for some Suby fun. Alway up for a Suby meet & get to see how slow of a driver I am at the same time.

Default could make it a super meet

I also will check on the possibility of setting up an autox out there.

I think in the past I have seen an autox being run on the west end of the upper parking lot, so we could maybe include that for the folks who are not rabid drag racers.

If that is possible we would need some folks to step up and agree to run that venue.

Just a thought.

Just a thought- if this does come together, and if there is a place to run an autocross, too, some sort of combined time basis for.....overall bragging rights. I'd be up for something like that...

Run the drag strip (one car at a time), come back down the return road (at speed) to the autox course, all in one fell swoop. Best overall time wins.

I switched to a VF22 a week ago!

Pace ran his 12.67 @ 110 with the VF22 and a 65 shot

Phast ran 12.69 @107 with a VF30 and a 50 shot

second creek, second creek, second creek, second creek....you are all getting sleepy....

<---Happy with his Power Enterprise 1820F turbo.

With NOS no doubt my car and the 1820 could be in the 12's too Nate however this thing has to last me 70, 80k miles tell I am ready for something new so I have stuck clear of the NOS. My traps speeds of 105-107mph with no NOS are what the guys are running with NOS. I just have to hook up a 1.7 60' man, my previous 2.2's and 2.3's are lacking for sure. It would be nice to have the first no NOS 12 second time slip in Colorado. Blah blah blah, as you know if only I didn't have school on Wednesday night I would of been at most test n' tunes this summer.

I'm in.

Currently figuring out what it would take to push the car into the 11s... I'm only a couple of mph away from it being theoretically possible I believe.

Brian; not to start a flame war, but for the record I am knocking on the door of 111mph with Nitrous, that is very significantly more horsepower than 105-107mph. I believe Jay and David have pushed around 103mph without.

Jay has proven however, that a 105mph trap is plenty good enough for 12s, so for sure your car is capable.

One-ten, POINT six, baby. Don't forget that extra 0.6 !!

Both Jay and I have been pulling this off on cold bottles. One can only speculate what happens when we fit warmers and get the Nitrous pressure up to where it should be.

Mine arrives next week.

-Pace

p.s Jay was running a 75-shot I believe, although it's only fair to point out that he was suffering significant Nitrous delivery problems.

Default a Broken record

OK, I know I sound like a broken record here, but there is such size as the right turbo for the car. ALL of the guys here know what too big of a turbo feels like on these cars and the PE1820 is just that - too big. Plus, I can buy 2.5 VF22s for the same price which flow almost as much and have like 1500rpms less lag.

Thats why I think Brians turbo is not able to get him out of the high 13's - that turbo takes so long to spool and it loses so much momentum between shifts that the times are not good. Sure, when you get up into the higher gears where there is more exhaust load to drive that monster, it rocks - but I think at 6000feet elevation and a PE turbo and that huge intercooler and even a 50shot, 13 flat is the best Brian is going to be able to hope for. Unless he pulls his motor and puts a little more displacement in there, that turbo is just oversized for the car.

My 2c

Yeah.. I'm up for the Shootout. Larry, let me know if you need help with any of the organizational tasks. You may also want to hit up the SW forum and ask those guys if they would be interested in coming up as well.

As for timeslips.. blah blah.

I stripped some stuff out of the car for the IDRC. I think I lost about 75lbs. I was running 104 traps and 13.0s off the bottle. SO DAMNED CLOSE!

Perhaps this is true JaMa but until I get a 1.7 60' out of my car the 1820 remains. Why change when I haven't even shown what the current turbo I have can do?

Yes sir, 65hp more or so due to the NOS.

Knocking 0.6 seconds off your 60' over the course of the winter is a pretty tall order. In fact, only Jay McNallie has ever put a Subaru into the 1.7s at Bandimere AFAIK.

You might wanna look into fitting some Nitto drag radials.

-Pace <--- Layin' the smack down, byaaaaatch!

p.s It's ok guys; I'm a just gettin' warmed up for this showdown.

Default not the most modified

Isnt it funny that the cars running the best times here are not necessarily the most modified ones? Isnt it also funny that the best parts are not necessarily the most expensive ones???

Brian.. in all honesty man, ditch those heavy ass rims and brakes. Slap a set of lightweight 16in rims and rubber on the car.

I don't think it's possible to generate enough inertia at the flywheel to get heavy wheel/tire combos moving fast enough to spin 1.7 60'. And I know for a fact that making boost at the line with the 1820 is hard or damn near impossible. That's the reason I ditched it.

If you'd let me, I'd love to have a chance making a pass with your car at the strip. I like a challenge.
