Default 06 STI only making 12psi

Hey guys, created a thread a couple weeks ago about my car running like 10lbs of boost. I was running a Cobb AP 93 tune with full invidia exhaust and a perrin intake. I proceeded to replace the stock BCS-no fix. Right after that, the car started running 5lbs of boost. I then checked the wastegate and found out I needed a new one. I then picked up my buddies vf39 turbo that had only 28,000 miles on it-no shaft play, no leaks, and he gave me the vacuum line with the restrictor pill with the turbo. This past weekend I replaced the turbo, and while I was in there I fixed an oil leak from the oil return line, as well as rechecking the new BCS by hooking it up to power to make sure it was working properly. I found out for sure that the BCS is working properly. I totally removed the Cobb map and reset the ECU and took it out for a spin. Long story short it is better than before when it was running 5lbs, but is back to hitting 10-12lbs of boost. This is not only read by my gauge, but also through the ECU. I can remove the EBC line from the wastegate vacuum line and it will go up to 20lbs or so before I let off the gas, so I know the turbo and wastegate are good. So my question is what's next? No CEL except for CAT Efficiency from not having AP hooked up, smoke tested the system-no leaks......I'm at a loss of ideas guys...

Is there any chance your EBC is bad? It sounds like you've eliminated quite a few variables and found that with the EBC disco'd it works fine so that's my guess.

Make sure the restrictor pill is on the compressor side not the wastegate side. And I highly doubt your "wastegate was bad".

the restrictor is on the compressor side, double checked it. The turbo I replaced also had shaft play. I checked the EBC already and it is functioning properly

Ok so to update you guys, I unhooked the vacuum hose from the EBC where it connects T fitting on the turbo to see if I could get it to spike 20lbs....it doesn't even make 12 lbs of boost anymore. It hits about 7-10psi...I'm lost once again

Are you using a restrictor pill with a 3 port EBCS?

I am using the factory ebcs and yes the restrictor pill is there but im not sure if something is faulty or not there. I just ordered all new vacuum lines with the restrictor pill and the T fitting from Subaru this am. Was only 20 bucks and I can now check that off the list

I had the same thing and found my cats were plugged. Swapped in a downpipe and no problems since.

No I still have the same problem. Once in a while my car will only hit 7psi and other times it will hit 15 consistently. I am still at a loss on this one. It can run a whole week with 7psi then randomly switch to 15psi for a couple days, then it may switch back. Seems like there is a demon in my car sometimes, I think its possessed....

I had a similar issue with my 06 sti where at times it would not make more than 10psi of boost on a 22psi map about 2 yrs ago.
So I had cobb do a smoke test and everything was good. They also tightened the fittings on my GS 3 port solenoid which should of not cured the issue but strangely it did.

Good luck man.

It kinda sounds like the problem I was having with my 07. Download Accesstuner ( free for version 2 holders) and go to your HIGH wastegate table and multiply it by 1.05 then copy that table and insert into LOW wastegate table and multiply by .95. Do this until target boost is reached. Check my recent threads for the one cobb responded too. That's what fixed my lack of boost.

Might be a stupid question, but whats your elevation there? Don't turbos boost lower levels at altitude?

PA is pretty much sea level so that's not an issue. Up here in CO elevation definitely plays a factor though.

Sounds like you already know what the issue is. You took out the BCS, and it held to 20 PSI, right?

Could have wrong size restrictor pill, in the wrong orientation etc. Try cleaning the BCS out with carb cleaner or something, because they can get clogged up.
