Default Subie Newbie from Cincinnati 07 sti swap 03 bugeye

Alright guys. So i traded my 99 civic si for a bugeye. FINALLY
ive been dying for one of these since i was a youngin

plus the civ wasnt my daily so i feel it to be a fit trade.

Only problem is, Its currently in a nonrunning state.

I am well aware that these cars are not like Hondas in which you can drive up to Toys'r'us buy some leggos and fix nearly anything. But i've gotten myself into a decent little project where the PO got lost, scratched his head and gave up. This isnt a cry for help but i am by no means a Subie expert.

About the car.

2003 80k wrx body
partially swapped 07 20k sti engine
hacked up wiring harness
stock 03 ecu
no turbo
stock wrx trans with no 2nd gear

the PO thought just dropping the 2.5 in there and leaving the stock electronics in would become some magical turn key thing no tuning attempted..

so my first reaction to this mess of wiring is to just go buy a new/used 07 sti ecu, wiring harness, ignition module, 6speed trans (Im aware the wrx trans will work but not for long without it going kaputt), and a vf39 and see where we're at after thats all installed.

BUT I have heard of tectronix in which i can tune the 03 ECU? what other ways could i get it just in a running state to see what else im working with.

any input is appreciated and if you know where i can find some of the above listed items that'd be great!

PS feel free to relocate this thread where you feel necessary, im still trying to figure out how to navigate this forum.

Thanks!
Alex

Stock 03 ECU?? You really need to break down how much was swapped over with the engine.

Were the heads swapped over too?

yes the heads were swapped. its a complete 2.5 short of the wiring harness and ecu. to the best of my knowledge that is.

Honestly, what are you doing buying a car without doing any research?

Stock 03 ecu can't run a USDM STi longblock. There's many differences between the engines. You'll need an STi ECU + Full wiring change.

If you read my post I stated that's one of the first things I was planning on picking up. I did it because the shell alone was the same value as my car

Ok. Get the whole harness and ecu and you're life will be much easier. Also research the immobilizer and if that affects the 07 sti.
