Default I Need Help!!!

With engine swap woes..

I have a 96 legacy outback wagon 2.2 that had a destroyed body. I found a 99 legacy L wagon with a 2.2 that the PO swapped to a 2.5. He then blew the 2.5 and gave up on the project. I bought it and began swapping my 2.2 into it from the outback.

My problem? Once I got the 2.2 mated to the trans, the body harness wouldn't clip into the engine harness. So I tried taking the 2.5 harness and swapping it to the 2.2 (which I read would work) but it won't work because of various sensors. I'm now thinking we were a bit misled, so how do I get the 2.2 engine harness to work with the existing body harness which I'm assuming is a 2.5??

We haven't touched body harness yet because we're afraid it might be another dead end.

I appreciate any help guys!!!!!!

With out knowing the extent of the 2.5L swap that was done in the 99 its really hard to say.

What would probably work is if you had the 99L 2.2L intake manifold and engine harness and install that on your 96 2.2L Long block.

So they swapped the phaseII 2.2 for the 2.5? Interesting decision.

My understanding is that 95-98 2.2s will swap into a 96-99 Outback/GT (2.5) cars easily (I know that doesn't help you). Could the harness really be different for the phaseII 2.2?

I would second what munkis said, you should be able to just use the intake and wiring that were there on your 96 2.2.

Post this over at ultimatesubaru.org -- those guys know all the nuances, and will def. be able to get you sorted out.

Okay, thanks. I'll try posting there.

The body and engine harnesses won't mate. There's 3 main plugs that won't mate. Do you guys happen to know if we can repin them instead of swapping the whole harness??

Thanks for the input!
