Default FXT EJ 255 into N/A Forester 2.5X

I've searched to not much avail. I want to swap an FXT 255 into my NA forester and still use my 4EAT transmission.

Apart from the wiring harness, motor, hood, what else is needed? Average price range for harness and FXT motor?

Edit: I probably will be searching for same year FXT to make it "easier" if it is any difference.

Why not just buy an XT?

Harness, ecu, maybe accelerator pedal if yours is drive by cable, exhaust, hood splitter, tmic. Price will depend completely on your location and what you buy. You get something rebuilt something used or something new??

Because it's the easier route by a long shot.

Supernice response though, love the snark- it's both helpful and endearing.

I don't know if the 07n/a is DBW, but the xt is. I don't know how big your fuel pump is. I don't know if the n/a is canbus, but the xt is. Forgive me for being so bold, but have you considered the 257 or is that out of the question for some raisin?

I believe it is DBW, but I would expect any 06-08 Foz to be.

Well I know how Nasioc can be. I bought a salvaged 07 2.5X for dirt cheap so I wouldn't mind making it into a slow project.

Id rather have the 255 because I don't want to push the 4eat without "rebuilding it", if that's even possible. I'm not looking to race out the foz. Just have that turbo fever like before. If its easier I'd probably just find or build a turbo kit and keep the boos real low.

You won't realize how crap the 255 is with the td04 until you switch to a vf or larger turbo. I liked the STi header better than the stock forester on the stock turbo.

At near stock power levels the 4eat should be fine with either engine, so all else equal I'd look for the 257. These sorts of questions often lead down the rabbit hole, but what about picking up a salvage forester, wrx, or sti and swapping everything over?

Wouldn't the TD04 255 be better than the 205 TD04? I guess I can find a wrecked car and transplant. My Foz is a salvage as well lol. Only front end damage with no frame damage..anyhow...how much do wrecked STi's/WRX/Foresters go for? Would I have to find them at auctions?

It's the same turbo. I think it's there to sell hood scoops on test drives.

Copart has a handful of WRXes and FXTs, the highest bid on one is 6200 on a 2013 wrx. There are probably more sites and there's always ebay.
