Default 2010 wrx 17x9 wheels and tire combo

I just got around to giving my 2010 wrx hatch some well deserved care and mods, just ordered new pads/rotors in and some polyurethane bushings along with some koni yellows. now time for wheels i am looking at 17x9 rota titans from wheeldude.com what tire size can i go to without rubbing my fenders? 255/45/17 fit? the roads in michigan are not that great otherwise id have 18x9 or maybe a 245/40/17 but whatever. i plan on getting king lift or maybe the stock heigh higher rate springs in the future.

thank you very much!

255/45 is both too tall and won't fit.

235/45 maybe, I don't know exactly what your plans are

255/40/17 will be the same OD as your stock wheels. Will fit square on the wheel.

245/40/17 will be a little easier to fit as far as fender mods needed. Will look a little stretched with most tires, some models may still sit square. Slight gearing advantage (slightly smaller tire OD)

255/45/17 will still fit, but has a slight gearing disadvantage (1" larger OD tire). Will prob be harder to fit. But may look better on a stock or lifted setup. I've run a 26" tire for my winter setup, and I cleared the strut fine, but the width and offset differences here may mean you can run into that issue. Keep that in mind.

Personally I run the 245/40/17s

I also think running 17x9 wheels on a lifted or stock height setup may look a bit silly.

thanks for the replies guys! as far as springs i dont want to lower the car, but i like the wide wheel and fat tire look of older sti models i have seen online. if i was trying to set my car up as anything it would be kinda like a tarmac rally car, driving in south east michigan is like driving the targa dunlop while every other car on the road thinks they are in a nascar race.

Duhhhhh, what?

Let us know what you're trying to do besides kinda like a tarmac rally car.

not trying to do anything other than drive my car i need new wheels! like i said im looking at a set of 17x9 rota titans +42 i don't like the stretched tire look and i don't want to mess with my fenders, i plan on running koni yellows with king stock height springs. 255/40/17 how hard is it to mod the fenders?

if you don't want to mod your fenders, the safest option is to stay close to stock.

17x8 are fine for 225/45/17. Didn't your car come stock with 225 tires? You should not need any fender work for that size.

Don't mean to hijack but slightly related; will 235/45/17 on 17x8 +53et (2011+ WRX OEM rims) rub at all? My local shop is adamant that 235/45/17 will rub but 235/40/17 will not. This is on stock suspension for 2010 non-widebody WRX.
