Default Moving to AK

Hi All,
There is a 99% chance that I'll be moving to AK in the next few weeks. I won't have my subie to start but it should be coming along at some point. I lived in Glennallen for a couple years almost a decade ago, but I should be in the Palmer/Anc. area this time. This is all very short notice on my end, so does anyone know of some decent housing in those areas. I'm currently paying just under 900 for my apartment, and I'd like to be around that or lower, but I know housing cost in that area are also decently steep. Thanks for any help anyone can give me, and even though it won't be there to start here is a link to my foz: http://www.subaruforester.org/vbulle...project-99894/

The Forester looks good. You've lived here before, so you know the drill regarding the harsh winters. Anchorage shouldn't be as rough as Glennallen. Welcome back.

Nice FSXT!

Welcome back. I'll keep an eye open for anything. Obviously start with craigslist for something maybe.

Welcome! Loving that Forester! We gotta hook you up with 2008 tail lights!

I agree, check Craigslist for housing needs. My friend rented an efficiency off Tudor Road and Florina Street that was quiet that you might look into. I think "Rancho Tudor" is the name of the apartments.

I used to live in Checkmate Plaza apartments off Checkmate and Boniface between Tudor and Northern Lights Blvd and also lived in Silver Ridge apartments off Lore Road and Meadow St (off Lake Otis Pkwy).

I grew up in Mt. View as a kid and worked as a Teacher's Assistant in Fairview for a few years, so I can honestly recommend that you AVOID those two areas if at all possible concerning housing. They're nice to visit...

You should be able to find a place for around that. My mortgage is right around $1000/month. 1400 sq/ft 3bed/2 bath house with big garage on a bit over 1/2 acre.

Check out the Alaska MLS listings, http://www.alaskarealestate.com/ 180-220k will put you at about 1k/month depending on what the down payment and interest rate is.

thanks for the welcomes and housing advice. My in-laws live in palmer and have found us some housing. Hopefully, I'll be able to get the subie out quickly. I'm driving my landcruiser up since it has the cargo space and the tow hitch, and I'm debating on whether I should put the forester in storage and fly back in a few months and drive it out, or just pony up the 4K to get it shipped to Anchorage. I'm leaning toward the later just because I don't want to put the car into storage, and as much as I love driving it; a 70 hour drive in a slammed car with a 4.5" muffler doesn't sound fun.
