Well, as was mentioned before, these cruises are usually at the END of September.

Nah. When we get closer to mid-August I'll start laying out a plan. Summer's been busy for a lot of people.

I'd still like anyone that's going to be gone in September to post up their dates (for any Saturday or maybe even Sunday).

The wife and I will be celebrating our 30th anniversary in Mexico September 19-28th.

If the cruise happens while we're gone, I'm sure my car will be there. It's just this feeling I have.

I like the idea of somewhere other than Seward, even though it seems to be tradition. Valdez would be a nice cruise. Good photo ops through the pass and a few decent restaurants. Also I would be more than happy to cruise to Tok just for some Fast Eddies food. Lastly Homer would be an excellent cruise. A long cruise but most excellent. Great food and awesome photo ops along the way. Also would be really cool to do a Line up down the spit if we have a decent turn out, would make for a cool picture.

^^^ I vote for Homer. I've never been there and I'm already planning to go to Valdez around that time. I don't want to go twice.

I agree with you about heading somewhere other than the traditional Seward trip. You should create another thread to see if there's any interest in that.

I think I mentioned this before, but basically Seward is the sweet spot for a location that is considered distant, but not too far. You have to remember that these cars aren't exactly fuel-efficient. Not everyone can afford to even drive to Seward and back AND eat at a restaurant there. I'm not about to switch up the traditional cruise to somewhere even more expensive and time-consuming for most people.

Seward doesn't require very much planning. It can be impulsive for some and energy spent isn't too bad. Once you suggest Tok or Homer, though, it things the herd significantly. A lot of people on here have kids that just couldn't handle that kind of trip.

I'm young and have money to blow, but my time is important to me. If you can gain enough interest for a cruise to Tok then I'd totally be down. Or even to Fairbanks. I've been meaning to go up anyways and I'm sure any one of those guys would welcome a few of us to stay at their place. Homer is also a goal of mine before summer's end.

I would vote Valdez as I've never been there, and the Glenn hwy between palmer and Glennallen is my new favorite road in the state. But yeah that is pretty far.
I'm obviously biased against Fairbanks as I've driven the Parks hwy a hundred times, but it would also be an excuse to visit family and friends.
If someone wants to drive to Tok I would say use it as an excuse to go to Tanacross, not that you need one. Otherwise the road between Glennallen and Tok is fairly uneventful.

Yeah either or really works for me. Seward is always an awesome place to visit. I would really just like a place for the best turn out. I have been to a few of these places already this summer haha so anyone of them work for me. I'll get a thread going and see what everyone thinks.

My brother 05GDF and I plan on going to kodiak sometime in mid September and that would mean we'd be driving to homer. Whoop! Haha

I don't have weekends off anymore so I don't know that I'll be able to make it either as I didn't have a date to request off ahead of time.

I also just found out SCCA is hosting autocross events on the 21st and 22nd.

I say any weekend after 15 (that is last Alaska Autocross series event by subzero) works. Then its getting too late, and not our issue SCCA scheduled so late in the month, if anyone even shows up for it.

I don't know what all the drama is against scca, it happened before I moved down here and I don't really care. I've missed too many events this year and if a group has the resources to organize them I'm happy to attend if able.

I'm certainly not saying to hold the cruise for my schedule, just figured it was worth mentioning in case others were interested as well.
Now all that being said, were I to get the day off and it was on the same weekend I will certainly choose a long drive over standing in a parking lot half the day. Especially as I have yet to be able to attend one of these 'epic' cruises or really any large organized meet for that matter.
Sorry if it sounded like I was contradicting myself here.

I'm on the fence on whether or not I want to bother with this still. Mostly because before the snow hits I still want to hit up Fairbanks, Valdez and Homer. So if any of you guys would RATHER go to any of those places instead of Seward let me know. I figure we can cruise there then part ways. I have friends in all three of those locations that I can stay with so I'll be doin' my own thang once I'm there (unless we're hanging out to take pictures or to meet with the Fairbanks crew or something).

For either Homer or Fairbanks I'd be more inclined to leave on a Friday evening, which might work for anyone that has to work on a Sunday, but not a Saturday.

For Valdez I might be persuaded to leave later on a Saturday for a late Sunday return if someone had to work Saturday, but had Sunday off.

So, I'm fairly flexible if the idea were to be MULTIPLE summer cruises. Post up which destinations you were and which weekends between two weeks from now and third week of October work for you.
