Which way the crush face on the metal TGV gasket between intake manifold and TGV assy should face? Crush face touching/facing the intake manifold or touching the TGV facing head?

The crush side needs to face the heads if i'm not mistaken. I'll go look for a link.

Yes, confirmed with Rallysport Direct. The tab in the middle where the crush side is should be facing the heads.

Not sure I understand, you can flip the gasket either way and still have the tab pointed in the same direction.

I think the crush side faces the intake though as the mating surface in the intake is bigger (smaller ID) than the TGV housing ID. Also, there is some witness marks on the intake that seem to indicate the crush side was deformed by the intake not the TGV.

So is the orientation in the picture correct? crush side facing up towards intake?.

If both surfaces are flat and the gasket is otherwise symmetrical it doesnt matter. I cant remember which way I put mine in when I did my tgv deletes. But for some reason I thought it only lined up one way.

As long as the bolt holes line up it doesn't matter which side is up. Once the ridge is compressed it no longer matters.

It matters the ID on the TGV is larger than the ID on the intake, once compressed there is more material on the intake side for the ridge to compress, so I think I have answered my question but still would like to know how the factory installs it.

I'm not getting what your saying. Ridge up or ridge down the ID of the gasket doesn't change when the ridge is compressed and it doesn't protrude into the flow path.

I put mine on with the ridges faceing up (towards the intake), though i dont think it matters, the material crushes not expands. Even if it did it would expand all of it not just one face.

Arent they the same gasket for both sides? Wouldnt that mean one of them needs to be up and one down? Or are the TGVs more symmetrical than I remember.

Guys, I just would like to know how factory installs them, regardless on whether it matters or not. Crush ridge up towards intake?, or ridge down towards head?

Simple question.

They are symmetric so you can install it up or down. Its hard to tell how it was installed from the factory because the ridge compressed flat when everything is torqued together. The old gasket is perfectly flat when it comes out and I couldn't tell looking at the IM or the TGV's what side was up or down. The only purpose of the ring is to deform and form a circular ring of high pressure for a better seal. Up or down its doing the same thing.

I'm about 99% sure I installed them ridge up this time around just because of my OCD but the last 3 or 4 times I've had my manifold of I just threw the gaskets in without even looking at the orientation and have never had an issue.

I build these engines quite often. It does not matter which way. Both surfaces are flat.

No issues, I installed the convex side of ridge facing the intake.
