Exclamation 08 sti AEM CAI problem?

Hey guys i searched and didnt find anything so i figured i'd start a new thread. long story short my car has the aem intake and the filter is perfectly placed so it's not touching the inner fender liner but around 100mph+ if im just going in 6th gear (around 3500rpm) and let off the gas it ripps out the passenger side fender liner!! this is the second time it's happend! all the clips were new and intacked, and i didnt hit anything in the road. (car is not lowered either) has anyone else experienced this??

my only thought is...the intake is sucking in so much air that its creating a suction effect on the fender liner and with the high speed winds the air gets into a small open spot and ripps it out? would that make sense??

sure a picture of what? pretty much the entire black inner fenderliner was torn out, along with the fender vent, and unclipped a couple of wires from the harness. i have an idea on fixing this issue if people think that its the suction effect...i know its not the intake filter flexing and touching the fenderliner because it's bolted down. so idk see whatelse it could be other then the amount of air the filter is trying to draw in

Why are you going 100+ on a street? Have you reviewed the forum rules that you agreed to? I would so.

Do you have a front lip? I read a couple other places that people have had problems with lips causing fender liners to go...

Lol ... This is a new one for me ... Never seen a CAI that eats fender liners.

Maybe the fender liner has been altered and going 100+ causes it to rip out of place

the intakes "sucking power" is directly linked to engine rpm and what turbo is in there. 100% throttle in 3rd gear 6500rpm in theory has the same pull through the intake as 5th gear 100% throttle at 6500rpm though you'd be going just physically faster. Your problem is someone isn't installing something right.

You probably just didn't get the liner reattached completely after having it loose to install the filter. Without all the clips it won't stay put at close to double the speed limit

Try checking how the liner is installed. Pay attention to where the liner meets the lower bumper lip. The liner must be tucked behind/above the bumper lip. If it is installed below, it could catch air at high speeds.

thanks for all the responses guys! a couple of questions i should answer first...i was going 100+ on an empty hightway doing wot data logs not street racing.
i do have a front lip actually i didnt think about that i guess it could be pushing some more air into the bottom grill/fog light bezzel and possibly pushing on the fenderliner.
the liner was not modified any and was installed by the dealer. after installation i double checked everything to make sure there were no clips missing. (all were intacked and the liner was installed correctly)
the turbo is a stock turbo around 21psi.
im thinking a solution to this is i'll install another one on there and put all the clips in again but this time i may cut a couple of vent holes into the plastic fender liner (front of wheel and back of wheel area) and apoxy a real fine mesh from the inside to let some air through it. that could fix the issue. the reason why im thinking its the intake and not the lip is because the driverside hasnt had a problem. only the passenger side (filter is on the passenger side) thanks again for all the help guys

Let me clarify this for you, even further. http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/misc.php?do=cfrules Read those.

Specifically:
Street racing posts of ANY kind, illegal or otherwise, must be posted in the Off-Topic forum or they will be locked or deleted without warning or notification. NASIOC does not support illegal street racing in any way, shape or form

"But I wasn't street racing, I was blatantly speeding on an empty highway."
Doesn't matter, illegal and not tolerated on this website. Review the terms that you agreed to.

Maybe the door of dicks will be at the end of the highway next time.
