Default even noisier after rebuild

hey guys. i had my trans rebuilt about 5-6 months ago. new bearings, seals, etc....it is now SO effing noisy, i always think it's going to drop or something. it whines, has that 'spinning bearing' sound. it shifts perfectly fine, and never slips or anything like that.

with the rebuild, i also put in a stage 1 ACT clutch and flywheel.

i spoke with my guy, and he says it's noisier due to the fact that the gears are not in the same grooves they were for the first 69k miles. the fact that i had to rebuild at 69k sucks in itself. (i bought car with 58k). but, can anyone confirm or deny this issue of gear groove change? i've heard that the 5-spd trans are total crap, and are subarus are just noisy in general, but man..i can take a video tomorrow if that would help.

thanks

Are you or the shop that rebuilt it, 100% sure that the front diff backlash is right? Or if its even centered?

What kind of fluid did they/you use?

The wrong fluid can make a good transmission sound bad.

Still, a fresh rebuild should not be noisy.

Well, he used a synthetic 80w-90 (some racing ****), and then my ball joint broke, an my axle pulled out, so I topped it off with Lucas synthetic 75w-90. (Which he ok'd).

can you not get the car on a lift and put it in gear to try to isolate exactly where the noise is coming from?
if from the transmission then go back to the guy and see what he will do..for you.

Your best bet for the 5 speed are a very limited choice of lubes.

Subaru's Extra-S, Uncle Scotty's Cocktail, Andrew Tech Cocktail are some of the best choices. These transmissions don't respond well to the wrong lubes.

Again, a fresh rebuild should not make odd noises, but using the right fluid is very important.

took her back in today. she's gonna be there for a week or so. if he can't fix this problem, we are going to try and scam my warranty into writing us a check for $3500 and get an STI swap goin on.

if it comes to that...would it be beneficial to swap with an 08+? i'd have to find a STI center console and such...but...what do yall think?
