Ranges anywhere from 3-6 hundred dollars, depending on quality of the kit, warranty, temperature of the bulbs etc...

You need to be more specific about what you are referring to-
Xenon gas-filled halogen bulbs, which abound on ebay in various types, or genuine HID's? At $15 you are probably referring to the xenon "HID-like" bulbs which are generally crap.
There have been many bulb-related discussions here which you can find by searching through past posts in this forum (Dress-up).

don't go for that $15 cheap stuff, go with the good stuff. mcculloch hid's are the way to go. doesn't get any better than a reasonable price with superb quality.

Is there a set of HID's that work with the stock lights, and that would also work with the STi projectors? I really want HID's but I hope to get the projectors one day, and dont want to have to re-purchase the HID's...

Can anyone help?

Nope just get the projectors first!

the stock lights are 9007 and projectors will be H7's. the D2S xenon bulbs will also fit into H7 projectors even tho they arent labeled H7.

There may be some kits that allow you to change the bulbs, the ballast/ignitor units are external to the lights and mount anywhere so they don't matter. However the bulbs are about half the cost of the entire kit, around $100-200/pair depending on where you buy them, so if you're going to buy different lights just wait until you do and then get HID's.
Also HID's should only be used in projector type lights to produce a proper pattern. The stock lights are reflector type and although you can install a 9007 HID kit the resulting pattern will not be focused, so they will be bright but not as effective as projector HID's and you will blind other drivers.

Let me step in here before you guys start wasting your money based on wrong information. Stock headlight is 9007. STI projector is H1 low beam.

Contact misterjung@aol.com

His name is Alan Jung.

That is where I bought mine. I got the 7000K H1 kit for my LHD STI projectors. The cost $380 shipped. Email him and MAKE SURE to let him know that Brian with the WRX told you to write him. That will gauruntee you to get the same price that I did. They come with a nice warranty and everything. He will give you the details.

7000K look very beamer like, with a violet hue to them. They look so sweet. Let me know if you have trouble contacting him, He usually replies in a day because he is always on the road. He has a huge factory in Maryland and he stocks all these lights so there is no waiting on shipping.

I have to call BS on this one. I had the eaglite 9007 HID conversion for the stock housings(before STi HID projectors). The beam pattern was actually a little more focused than halogen. Awesome upgrade.

Take a look at one of my writeups on it:

Well I'm not going to argue with real-world experience-
I'd still like to see this firsthand, and of course there is the loss of high-beams which may or not be a problem for everyone but all should be aware of it.
I don't doubt that HID's in stock lights are preferable to RHD JDM's, there is no question about those blinding oncoming traffic.
I'm very happy with my LHD projectors (Morettes) w/HID's, and I can certainly recommend them to anyone considering a lighting upgrade. I think the most important consideration when doing this is that a proper lighting system should improve your own visibility and driving safety while not causing a problem for other drivers.
