Default Oddball cooling ?

'03 wrx 260,000 miles... Prodrive St III and a buncha other junk

So upper radiator hose took a crap on me (got a pinhole), and I replaced it... no biggie took about 20 min. Topped off fluids.

But afterwords it was being a lil odd to my mind so I thought id ping you guys.

SO I let it idle for 10 min. Fan never came on, engine temp rose slowly to normal never went above normal.

Too it to the street did about 4 launches... came back home.

Let it sit. Fan still never came on. Temp never went above normal.

Hit ac.. both fans come on and run just fine.

Upper hose has lots of pressure in it... so I will assume the t-stat opened.

Nothing is wrong.. but.... thoughts?

I dont see anything wrong either. My fans rarely come on. Your car will let you know if its overcooling via CEL and undercooling via Temp Gauge.

I got the overcooling one i.e Car not reaching operating temp quick enough and discovered a piece of my drain valve stuck in thermostat (thankfully)

Purged and topped off again last evening. Got a after market radiator so all I gotta do is take off both caps and fill.

Just figured that the fan would eventually come on.... But all is still well

Watching the fans to determine if the system isn't functioning right is the wrong way to go about it.

And the right way is? Least helpful moderator comment ever.

The system was fine except for the fans not cycling on while I was watching for 5 min. Thermostat opened, water pressure was fine, contact temp readings on the block, hoses and radiator were all in spec.

I was more curious if the system used two temp senders, one for the fan, one for the gauges... as I have seen this in several vehicles.

But drove 38 miles this am... temp was spot on, and other than some spillage burning off everything was spot on.
