Default Mercedes GT (or SLC or Baby SLS or Mini SLS)

first rendering

Quote:
New spyshots have emerged of the upcoming Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG successor, currently rumored to be called the 2016 Mercedes GT wearing heavy camouflage.
Talk about a successor to the current Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT has been around for many months now, with all previous reports suggesting that the car will be dubbed the Mercedes-Benz SLC and that it would compete firmly against the Porsche 911 line-up.
However, the latest reports suggest the new Mercedes-Benz sports car is going to be dubbed the 2016 Mercedes-Benz GT and will have a starting price of 109,000 euros when it hits the market in early 2016. The 2016 Mercedes-Benz GT will replace the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT which is set to finish its production run at the end of 2015.

In order for the 2016 Mercedes-Benz GT to truly compete with the Porsche 911 line-up, a selection of variants will be offered with the base model to feature a 485hp engine and the aforementioned price tag of 109,000 euros.
Mercedes-Benz will then offer a 2016 Mercedes-Benz GT S variant featuring 550hp predicted to cost around 145,000 euros. Topping out the 2016 Mercedes-Benz GT range will be an eventual Black Series variant with around 585hp.

Furthermore, the 2016 Mercedes-Benz GT will also weigh 150 pounds less than the outgoing Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT. What’s more, Mercedes-Benz will not offer the 2016 Mercedes-Benz GT as a convertible with it only being available as a coupe and in rear wheel drive.

Sounds like cost-cutting and emissions considerations to create a much more beige version of the current SLS, which is a relatively unique experience IMHO.

Why does it need both the comically-oversized transmission tunnel and the long nose?

Looks like a bunch of lousy packaging is matched only by the dull styling.

Have you ever been in a rwd, front engine sports car?

The 2000 Miata listed as owned by the person who posted above you would indicate "yes".

We have different standards for sports car.

Let me rephrase to include erryone; "Have you ever been in a rwd, front V8+ engine sports car?"

LSx motors fit into Miatas. You don't need an 8' hood to contain a V8 drivetrain. It's all about styling.

If you can't have fun in a Miata, it's not the car's fault.

Why, yes. I've even driven a few.

And none of them were as poorly packaged as this rolling marketing exercise from MB.

Point I'm making, the size of that trans tunnel is fairly common.

... and apparently red interiors are popular.

I think the s2000 hit the proportions of hood to cabin to trunk ratios pretty much perfectly. In the case of so many 2 seaters, you get penis extension look with an unnecessarily elongated hood for "styling", but I think it looks really dumb. In terms of fractions, I'd say 2/5ths hood, 2/5ths cabin, 1/5th trunk looks outstanding on coupes.

Edit: just did some bench maths using the lines of a piece of college-rule and a side profile pick of an s2000. It worked out to 10 lines hood, 11 lines front windshield to rear soft-top, 5 lines for trunk. Almost exactly the numbers I pulled out of my ass lol. Good to know I've found the "golden ratio" of sports cars.

Sexy. A little long in the hood for my tastes, but looking at that engine bay, it obviously needs it. And THAT is a proper front overhang.
