Waiting for my SPH-DA110 to be delivered right now. Didn't see an AR3 unboxing video anywhere so I'll probably take a quick one with the iPhone when it gets here.

Only changes I believe are the CD/DVD drive if you get the $499 version, Blu Tooth audio streaming, and voice activation (Google voice, Siri)

There might be others, but thats the ones I am aware of.

AFAIK ARLiberator does not work yet on the 3. Hopefully it will soon, since I just purchased the 3.
thanks for the info. did not know the arlib didnt work on the 3.

You stated the blu tooth audio streaming. So this means I can listen to pandora without having the HU phsycially connected to my phone? Does it just go off the 3g/4g network I have off my phone then?
secondly, the appradio3 has this only? or does the appradio2 have the blutooth audio streaming as well?

Correct, can listen to Pandora without any physical connection to the radio. This only exists on AR3 was extremely important to me.

I would imagine that it won't be too long. The new firmware will also apply to the AR2 so they are probably working on it.

Just to be clear, with Bluetooth Audio Streaming, you're not limited to certain apps. The headunit will play any sound from your phone. Pandora, Spotify, Youtube, Netflix, etc. Any audio source from the phone will play though the headunit, just not video (unless you have ARL). Unfortunately, for those of us stuck with lame iphones, we're out of luck on that one...

Yea ill probably end up with the AP3. Last question lol: So in the pic (OP) the 2nd pic has a USB cable coming out of it. Anyone know how long that cable will be? Im hoping to rout it so that its coming out the drivers side left AC vent. The one near the mirror. Id have to route it through behind the odometer. (I have a hole drilled into the dash, and its ugly, so I figured Id be resourceful and at least have it as a docking station to charge my phone)

I'll measure it for you in a couple hours when it gets here, however I THINK that USB port is only useful for connecting smart phone cables or flash drives for the purpose of firmware updates. It seems like for any real connectivity you will need one of the smartphone connectivity kits.

kinda confused.
Pandora is already on the AP3 so that would work no problem. I understand that one. How do I get to use Spotify wireless without arliberator tho? I thoought it was arliberator that allowed you to stream Spotify from your phone to your AP3 b/c the AP3 doesnt have Spotify by itself.

Gotcha, thank you. I have the Samsung S4 so I'll be looking for those kits when I decide to pull the trigger on one of these.

Seems like they are retailing for $500, but amazon has them for $350. Not bad at all

There are a few different versions my guess is the one you are looking at is the non CD/DVD (SPH-DA110). There were are few days where ABT messed up their online listing though and was selling the SPH-DA210 for $399 though. One of the things to watch out for though is that Pioneer is REALLY touchy about any kind of warranty claim unless the dealer is "authorized" and only a select few online retailers are (ABT, Crutchfield, Best Buy).

On previous gen's there is a music "iPod" app that will play anything. I use it when listening to audible. It will display info, track skip options, etc. Or you can go to the pandora app which will give you thumbs up/down controls, station selection, that stuff. Phone will display pandora/appradio screen from here that won't have any options, but in the iPod app you will still have phone control.
It looks to be the same on the ar3.

That answers one of my questions.

Now can we still use the wheel controls on the 13 STI? Hate to lose this functionality. Thanks.

So Im on Crutchfield which has a non CD/DVD version for AP3. I also need the wiring harness.

Do I also need to purchase one of these wiring kits?
http://www.crutchfield.com/g_380650/...on-Cables.html

If everything is blutooth wireless, why do I need the above cables? confused....

In response to the disappointment with the torque pro I understand that the parameters that are available for subarus is somewhat limited.

However, I have a JDM ECU and I had to purchase a BT adapter from the UK that reads SSM. The developer has got this to work and although there are currently only about a dozen parameters that can be shown there is no reason why we can't eventually have access to all the params available via tactrix cable since its using the same protocol.

There is great potential there via SSM, OBDII not so much.

I'm trying to investigate this more and hopefully send the developer more info on the SSM PIDs....but there is a steep learning curve for me.

BTW, the AR2 is currently on sale at Best Buy for $279!!!! I freakin' bought it a month ago! Argh!!!
Better hurry though, there were only two left in all of Phoenix as of yesterday!

The radio just showed up and the USB cable is 10" long. Still not sure exactly what its use is though. Took an unboxing video, but it sucked so it's not getting uploaded. Nothing really special though. Came with:

  • Head Unit
  • Wiring Harness
  • Bluetooth Microphone
  • GPS Antenna w/Adhesive Magnetic Mounting Pad
  • Some Mounting Screws to be Used With Your OEM Mounting Brackets
  • HDMI Cord Bracket
  • Paper Manual w/Other Documentation
I'll get it installed Saturday afternoon and then put up a real video with it connected to the iPhone 4S.

The parameters aren't the issue. It's the sampling rate, accuracy, data readout speed, etc. It's a fun toy, but that's all it is. For anyone wanting to get real dead nuts accurate information on what's going on with their car, Torque isn't the app/product, but for just under $30 as a complete package, it is a good code reader and fun to look at.

Ha, just looked at what the previous owner left me back there with his install of the Clarion single din head unit that's in the car. Looks like there is no OEM mounting bracket and the wiring is crazy. Seems like I have my work cut out for me fabricating a bracket and rewiring things back there. Sucks that the guy didn't touch a single thing on the car other than this and he did such a bad job!

I am using a Samsung S4 as my phone. I would like to upgrade my HU and want something I can 1) use Pandora with, or Spotify would be even better 2) use Google maps 3) bluetooth calling.

What does the Appradio 3 have that the Appradio 2 doesnt. Is it worth it to get the 3?

Also, I have been looking at ARliberator. I guess by getting that app it allows you to run your phone through your headunit. My question then is, does it need to be physically connected to the phone? Or can it be done through bluetooth.

And if Arliberator allows you to run your phone through your HU, this means I can run spotify, correct?
The dev for ARLiberator is having trouble getting the s4 to work with arl. We're not sure why. The Appradio forum is the best place for info, beta testing, etc.

If you're running arl, anything that runs on your phone works. If you're using pioneer's umbrella app, you're restricted to pioneer approved apps.

The Appradio 3 now has s3/s4 support & bt streaming audio & an optical player (cd/dvd). That's the main addition. Seems the added bt stuff is proving problematic with arl, which was developed to work with the ar2.

To use arl, you have to be running ics or higher & have hdmi mini or mhl.

For the s3, you need the Samsung 11 pin hdmi to mhl adapter (not some amazon or ebay copy.... You WILL have issues).

The dev & the willing beta testers on the Appradio forums are working to get things functional, however.

As far as I'm concerned, the AR3 has nothing added that I want & adds enough additional crap to make what I like about my setup not work. So I'll stick with my ar2.

I'm using an adapter kit with my ar2 and have retained steering wheel controls, except for the phone steering wheel controls. Those don't work, but fwd/back, mode, and volume +/- all work still.

Yes. Metra ASWC-1. You can get it from SVXdc and he will make sure it is flashed to the latest and greatest firmware. Additionally he will sell you the harness with the additional pins added that you will need to make it work.

You will lose the voice activated dialing (lower button on the phone controls), but instead it will be changed to operate as a mute button. The pickup and hang up buttons will cycle your HUs favorite stations by default. The up and down buttons will act as a seek. If you want to get all fancy, I understand you can program the buttons to have different functions for pressing and holding vs just a press.

Jailbroken iPhones can mirror the screen on the HU.

It's just nowhere near as user friendly as ARL from my understanding.
