Default 11 wrx rattle near windshield is driving me nuts!

so there is a rattle directly in front of me at all speeds that is driving me insane!

its not the gauge cluster, a pillar, clock pod, or radio area. i'm thinking it is either the vin plate or something to do with the vents for the defroster.

has anyone had a similar issue?

any fix?

You don't think it is the A pillar, but it is. It has two tabs that mount the bottom to the dashboard in the corner of your windshield by the VIN plate. Here is a good thread on it. This one is for the passenger side but it's the same thing.

That rattle drive me nuts until I did this.

Just did my a pillars. I used denim instead of foam. I'll report back on the first cold day how it worked.

There are a number of noisy issues with the plastic fantastic dash mostly creak sounds. Start with a-pillars put foam, velvet or felt tape or something similar on the tabs and edge where it contacts the dash. Check the gauge hood, I put a thin layer of felt on the edge of mine, cleared the winter creaks. After that the dash to windshield edge can make noise, best you can do, without taking the dash apart, is slip some foam/felt in the edge between the surfaces. Stupid plastic dash creaks on every part it touches...

Not a single click or pop this morning from the A pillar. Denim works just fine. This should be an easy fix for anyone who's ever cover a sub woofer box.

Oh I'm totally going to try this. I've been resorting to periodically squeezing the a-pillar to make it go away. Not ideal.

did this yesterday totally worth the 20mins of my time!
I used a thicker rubber electrical tape (what I had handy) and seems to do the job.

i wasnt able to find the source of my "rattle" - more of a knocking sound - at the front of my dash windshield area. I removed the plastic a-pillar and dash piece at the front yet it persisted. Turned out one of the little hood "bumpers" on the support under the front of the hood, that adjust the height of the hood when it is closed, had turned itself down and wasnt touching the hood. this allowed the hood to shake more then normal and knock, the vibration of which was then transmitted up the hood to the hinge, giving me an annoying knocking sound at the front of the windshield/dash area. simple fix to screw the bumper up again!

I installed raammat on the a pillar tabs months ago to no avail this rattle is coming from directly in front somewhere far enough down near the windshield that i cant seem to fix it.

next week i am going to drive around with my a pillar out and the gauge bezel removed to see if either of them are doing it

it might be the plastic cowl under the wipers on the outside.

Default A pillar removal 2013 impreza 2.0

I have the rattle but the articles below show an A pillar with the SRS screw hole.
The 2012-13 does not have an airbag in the pillar. How do I remove it?
Do you know where the tabs are located?

Thanks.

Default A pillar not making the noise

I took off the A pillar cover 3 times and packed it with foam tape etc. But still heard rattling. So I now have the plastic cover off completely and still hear a noise. However, it seems to be coming from the over head light and switch assembly near the windshield. I'm trying to determine exactly where it's coming from as I drive over a bump in the road.

Is there something behind there I can pad? I can't make the noise by just hitting it with my hand. Only when going over a bump or pothole.

Default Pillar noise hopefully fixed

Thanks for all your suggestions and Links.
I did remove the roof light assembly at the windshield and stuffed some foam behind the header. However the noise was still present. My daughter, while riding in the passenger seat, said the noise was still coming from the A Pillar area. Apparently the sound moved up the glass and seemed like it was coming from the light. At this time the speaker grill was removed. I found that the bolt that holds the speaker assembly was tight but the plastic could still move behind it and was hitting the windshield on bumps. I removed the bolt and added an additional washer. This kept the assembly tight. I'll test for a day or so before replacing the A pillar cover.
