Default will 05 impreza rs rear diff fit 03 impreza ts

I've searched and searched and found conflicting info and it's very confusing. I have a 2003 Impreza TS 5spd and need a new rear diff. I'm pretty sure I have a 3.90 rear end and I "think" the rear diff from the 05 RS 5spd, which I was told by the salvage yard is a 3.90 diff, should be a direct swap. If I could get a yes/no answer from one of the subie specialists here that would make me feel a lot better before buying the diff, taking the car apart, and finding out it doesn't fit.

Thanks in advance, it's much appreciated,
Mike

^^ this seems to be the conflicting info I'm finding, I was told in 05 the Impreza RS non sport package had the 3.90 like the ts, but trying to confirm it and the guy with the 05 RS rear diff has it listed as a 3.90. Is there a way to tell by looking at it, a part# or something?

Well I got the vin# from the 05 impreza rs and confirmed it has a 3.90 rear diff so it's on the way to me and then into my 03 ts wagon. So it's true that some 05 rs cars have the 3.90 gearing if they didn't come with the sport package.
Hope this helps someone else that might be in my position.

Sorry to bring this back to life. So is the 05 3.90 an LSD?

I believe the diff is an open unit, as I have a 04 impreza 3.9 in my car until I buy a r180 and specb axles. On rainy and icy days ill go completely sideways if I floor it. Not that I do; I just drive like an old man when weathers bad. I do not benefit from the beauty of awd. (Need dccd controller as well, 70% of my power goes to the rear on auto).
