I want to know whether someone at the NTSB actually "confirmed" those names . . . or is someone at the NTSB about to get reprimanded?

CNN is saying a third victim died in the hospital.

Also, ammo is still exploding.

Just heard the 911 calls from crash victims and observers. SF needs to get it's **** together. Too many transfers, too many uncaring operators. You don't tell a plane crash victim "we already know about the crash" and give attitude when people are waiting 20 minutes for an ambulance. You don't transfer a guy reporting a crash to the airport where they are dealing with the emergency, you just send as many ambulances as you can.

Embarrassing all around.

I hope the NTSB does something about this.

It's a dispatcher's job to stay calm and collected. When people are hysterical, no response is going to satisfy them. If you don't think they were routing every single ambulance and other EMS unit they could free up to the crash site to help out, you're an ignorant fool.

People need to drop the cell phones and calm down. They have a plan for MCI response and usually hold drills so they get things right, especially around major airports. Flooding 911 with frantic calls helps nobody and keeps them from doing their jobs. Believe me, someone saw the plane falling from the sky. You don't have to call 911.

Terrible sentence construction.

"Adding to testimony given on Wednesday verifying the 911 calls, Stone's husband, who was also aboard the plane, confirmed the fears his wife relayed to operators about people dying around her."

There's a difference between being calm and being indifferent. If this is standard procedure then its terrible and needs to be changed.

The last operator on that tape didn't even know whether the person calling was a plane crash victim or just an observer. She didn't confirm her location, name, or whether she was with the rest of the group. She would have hung up if the victim had not started talking about people dying. It shouldn't take hysterics to motivate an operator into action. Second, what's the point of even having that number if she need to be transferred to get other emergency services. A 911 operator should not have to transfer someone to route an ambulance.

Finally, it's better to have multiple people reporting than no one reporting. Take the example of the woman on the 101 who called. If people at the scene are unable to make the call, it would better if you have multiple people giving directions so that you can create a somewhat accurate vector to the emergency.

No one should be discouraged from making a call and operators shouldn't be busy with anything else other than handling calls. If that's too much they shouldn't be there.

Does it really matter who is calling? They're in full response mode, a call from a bystander after the fact does not matter.

You're correct in that people should never hesitate to call. But a plane crashing on the runway? Bet someone already saw it. I thought I heard that the first unit was on the scene within 90 secs and putting foam down within 120. That's just from memory, but it was pretty much as quickly as they could get there.

Bingo.

You can be professional without being apathetic, bordering on rude. I'm sure dispatchers are taught to show little emotion, but I don't see how you can't be compassionate or even just courteous at the same time.
