Had no idea as you said

It's not a race though so I don't care who passes me in what - happy to point by a faster driver. I'd still want to rent the best car I could.

I rented a scirocco. If I wrecked it, it was 10k max. If someone else hit me, it was 10k. A mclaren might be 50k plus lost revenue. You sure money is no object?

Think it out

Also, be aware that they don't allow any in-car video, except GoPros you can rent from the track. If you do take video, just be discreet. I think the idea is that people with video running will be more likely to push the car a bit too far.

not true, they changed their politics, and they allow filming

So we have 4 SpecE30's that we could rent at VIR, CMP, Summit, RA or etc.

Full race prepped cars - could be rented for HPDE or racing. Probably about $1500+ a weekend.

Like?

If that includes consumables that sounds like a great offer! (Disclaimer: I am not looking for a track rental at present)

Too cool you're going to have a blast. Having driven my dads many 9/11 Turbo's and GT3's I would definitely go with that or the Mclaren. The GT-R isn't too fun to drive. Sure it's fast and it'll stick to the road, but it sure as hell isn't a real mans car.

As said before, if this includes consumables then that is not a bad price point! Between fuel for the tow rig, loading up trailer, prepping my car, burning up my tires and pads, c85 for the track, and the risk of stuffing my car or blowing it up, I'd say it works out to be a pretty good deal in a great car! Spec e30's are some of the best balanced cars out there! Despite not being huge on power, they are a blast to drive!

To the OP, is the Ariel Atoms an option? They always looked like a blast to drive..probably not the kind of experience you are looking for though. I'd personally like to hit the ring for my first time in something tame and well balanced like a prepped M3 csl or something along those lines. Best of luck and enjoy!

Personally, I'd rather go for a "ride" with someone who knows what the hell they're doing, that go out by myself in either A: POS car, or B: an extremely expensive dangerous car.

Ring Taxi would have me nauseous in no time, especially if I sat in the back.

I was only 24 so was limited to only the suzuki swift. Absolutely LOVED it. Beat the lap time i was shooting for and enjoyed ever second of it. It was a car that i was actually able to take to the limit by my 5th lap. I would say that is a pretty tall order in a supercar for a first time visitor.

Its called the green hell for a reason

Edit: rentracecar.de is the place I used. Awesome people!
I also rented a Swift from the same company, and I would also HIGHLY recommend them. The main reason I rented the Swift is because it was the cheapest option to get me on the ring for an entire day. I wanted something "fast", but I really just wanted to spend the entire day racing.

It also took me about 4 laps until I felt comfortable enough to really push the Swift to it's limits. I never did bother trying to keep track of my lap times, but I could tell I was getting progressively better.

How much real track experience does the OP have?

I didn't suggest anything. I just said what I would (or would not) do.

And I am not going to Germany to drive a Miata on the ring. In fact - I would almost certainly want to hire an instructor anyway to maximize the learning curve and feel much safer. Those RSR track days look nice.

It's actually really hard to get a ride in that thing as it's only there on certain days. I was over a couple years ago and I think it was like 250 Euro for a ride, but it wasn't running the day I went so I drove my escort wagon rental car for a couple laps. No one would rent me a race car at 21 even though I had a SCCA license

I contacted RSR and will be waiting for a reply. I'm looking at renting either Porsche GT3 or the RS. I WILL have an instructor with me. To those who have asked about me about my (lack of) track experience. I'm PERFECTLY fine with having someone tell me what to do. I'm not looking at any specific time-related goals other than doing something I've dreamed of for years.

Age. I had set everything up and they knew my age prior to me standing in their shop to sign the paperwork, but for some reason decided not to tell me until I was actually there that I was too young. I still had a great time though.
