Default Where did all the 5-speeds go????

Ok, I've been gone for some time since I bought my WRX way back in 2002 - which is still on the road with about 140,000 miles now.

Anyway, I'm looking to buy a new 2013 Impreza 2.0i and the 5-speeds are about as rare as unicorns and flying pigs. No way I'm buying a CVT and I can't find the model/trim with a stick that I want.

What in the world is happening??? (btw, I want the European Impreza with the 6-speed!!!)

There are 25 5 speed n/a imprezas at Manchester Subaru in NH. Have you done an internet search by dealer and looked at their inventory? I picked Manchester out of the blue.

Seeing how he's in NJ I couldn't envision him searching way up north for a car.

whats wrong with the 6 speeds ? if They're similar to the sti tranny's than they're a huge upgrade from the 5 speeds in terms of strength and reliability.

right, I only looked at about 5 dealers around me in NJ. Most have no manual trans impreza's, but some had 1. Sounds like someone decided that people in NH like there stick shifts.

(hey, I just looked at the inventory in NH and it's amazing. We don't have a subie dealer quite like that around here. I guess being in the snow belt makes a big difference on inventory)

I looked in NJ too and wow......someone decided that we're all frito eating couch potatoes who can't push a clutch.....

Check surrounding states.

over 10 in Danbury, ct http://www.colonialsubaruct.com/new-...model=Impreza&

Couple in Stamford, ct

You could also do what I did when I bought my LGT. I went to my dealer and made the deal on a no option manual LGT, knowing that they didn't even have one. They found one in Maine and traded for it. I had the car in a few days.

It's too hard to eat and text in a manual, so Americans don't want them.

Not true. But it does require some effort. So, Americans generally being a bunch of slackers means "give me meh autotragic transmission"

I have no idea why people here are so unwilling to learn. Bizarre considering in other countries an automatic is not as common as a standard.

They're essentially the 5psd with another gear, nothing close to the STI 6spd.

Curious as to why you want a manual tranny in a 2.0i. I love the standard tranny as well but in a non-performance car it doesn't really matter. The CVT tranny is pretty nice. I can't even feel it shift in my Crosstrek.

Did you really just say you can't feel the CVT shift? I don't know where to start expressing my disappointment with your understanding of how a transmission works.

If you think that's bad, try finding a 5 speed Forester. There was only one in a 50 mile radius when I found mine earlier this year.

Why do I want a 5-speed? I've got at least 1,000 reasons (dollars). It's also all I've every driven for several cars so it's realllllyyyy second nature. Eat, text, shift, read, sleep at the same time.... no problem.

Automatics give the manufacturer better control over emissions. I ran into the same problem with my 2013 here in Pa, the only manual I could find was a base model sport with hub caps and no roof rails. Prior to this I had not owned a AT since 75. I was looking for a XV but the dealer search showed none within 200 miles. Now every dealer has like 20 of them.

Listing from 2011 here:

http://www.motortrend.com/features/c...t/viewall.html

Many of these are no longer available with a manual. Want a Lamborghini with a 6 speed......go to the used section of your friendly exotics dealer because 2011 was the last year. Now, you're stuck with the flappy paddle gearbox that's known to eat itself if you want to do something exotic like go in reverse. Great.

Is a factory order out of the question?

I ordered mine. Got it 2 months later with 4 miles on it.

When my wife agreed that ditching her FWD '07 Dodge Caliber with a CVT in favor of an AWD Subaru in either a wagon or 5 door chassis.
We went looking at the used car lots and searched online. Sadly large amount of them had automatics. I told her that I really didn't want another CVT equipped vehicle. She wasn't game for the Forester models, trade-in amount and monthly payment were all a big factor.
We ended up finding an '07 Impreza wagon with an automatic transmission at a good price. I'd still like to move her into a manual transmission vehicle in the near future, but as stated here, they are not as common to find.

I hadn't really thought about a factory order but it's an option because I'm not in a huge rush. I think of factory orders for american cars, but not so much impreza's (especially if they are assembled overseas). I really wasn't too sure if the dealer could order a specific car or instead if they are limited to whatever they can trade within about 100+/- miles. thanks for the suggestion.
