Default IS it possible to get 300HP from a WRX?

I am looking at trading in my 01 RS, and I am looking at several cars.

The new 350Z, M3 w SMG and the "new" 04 WRX.

The Z has 285 HP if I am not mistaken and from what I have read it is pretty easy to get it up to 300.

The M3 has 333

Now can you get get 300 from the 2.0 in the Rex? And will it be reliable? If it is, how much would it take to do it money wise?

Thanks,
Chris

Umm, i don't know about ripping the snot out of them (especially modded!) but you'll at least be able to hold your own. Picture this: 02 wrx with about 40 grand in it ( or so the guy claims) barely out runs a 91 civic with a b16a1 swap.

What the hell are you talking about? Did the guy spend his 40K getting the entire car chrome plated or something?

your gonna have to beef up your tranny in the wrx if your planing on running 12's all the time...2nd gear will be toast very quickly if you don't

another $3500 for the list...

The stock tranny will work fine running 12's, as long as you drive with a bit of mechanical sympathy.

That's a pretty broad range (price) of cars.

You are talking about a used M3 right? Not the 50K brand new one.

Apples > Oranges

Can't see comparing a WRX with a SMG M3. I see them as 2 different cars offering different things.

The fact that you are asking this question is telling me you are looking for the biggest bang for buck.... of the cars you listed the WRX offers the best of everything for the least amount.

Forgeting the price and looking at the pure technical aspect of the cars. Look at it this way, the new E46 M3 engines aren't quite bullet proof and the list is growing of blown engines. The WRX's glass tranny is a far cry from a blown M3 engine

I wouldn't even bother with the 350z. Got to take a former Nike coworkers for a quick drive down the highway and for a car that will cost 34-36k equipped as I liked, I wasn't impressed. I'm not saying it isn't nice, IT'S VERY NICE, but when it comes down to fun factor the WRX comes out ahead. I found the 350z to be to much of a cruiser.

again.. biggest bang for your buck. The WRX's aftermarket support is HUGE and compared to the other 2, the parts are readily avalible and cheap. Getting to 300HP is easy.

While it is true that the E46's are having problems with their engines, from what I have read and heard BMW is replacing them under warrenty.

I am hoping that Subaru will bring over a six speed tranny with the STI or even the regular WRX in 2004.

Thanks for your input.
