Greetings,
This is the first of several initial messages to gather feedback and suggestions on a new product being developed by a local company. The UTEC PocketLogger is a stand-alone unit which is capable of logging UTEC data without the need for a laptop!! Here's how it works: 1. Simply attach the PocketLogger to the serial cable of the UTEC 2. Select the log file you wish to capture by pushing a button on the device 3. Drive like the wind! 4. Disconnect the PocketLogger and connect to a desktop PC using the PocketLogger Desktop Connectivity software to view log files Features include: -push button log file selections (UTEC logs 1-6) -reset button to clear memory locations -easy to use Windows-based software (GUI) to download log files to PC -Map viewer/editor software for modifying fuel/timing without being connected to the UTEC! -battery operated (no auxilary power or cables!) -LED display shows log files recorded -------------------------------------------- A prototype has been built and is currently undergoing further development/testing. If you have any other features or suggestions please let me know. Future prototypes will be sent to i-club members showing interest in testing. ![]() p.s. Future additions will include a map transfer function allowing you to create/view/modify maps with windows-based software, upload them to the PocketLogger, then download to the UTEC (once again......no need for a laptop!!) NOTE: This product is not affiliated with TurboXS Thanks, ScoobieSnaX ![]()

Is this affiliated in any way with Digital Tuning's PocketLogger ? If not, you may want to change the name to eliminate some confusion.
Regardless, it sounds like a cool product. |

I assume your just using an 8051 variant w/ a built in UART and a big hunk o flash?
Ideally I'd like to leave this thing plugged in all the time. When I encounter something I want to investigate (ie enexpected knock event) I'll pull the logger and check it out. This means that you need to have a fairly deep memory and it needs to be arranged in a circular manner. I assume that the UTEC like most logging devices will log many different variables selectable by the user. I don't have my UTEC yet and haven't seen an instruction manual so I'm not sure how this is set up. Does it just save the setup, or does your logger have to send the setup every time? Assuming a reasonable number of data types how long can you log for? I'll ask you the same question I asked TurboXS (They never answered). Is there any possibility of end users obtaining at least portions of the source code to modify on a whim. Unlike the UTEC this doesn't contain any proprietary algorithms and my only fear in releasing the source would be that someone might duplicate your product and sell it, a sound license structure should fix this. Thanks, Dustin |

Yes... what would a price estimate be? If it would be very low, then the product would be extremely useful. But it seems to me like you can do everything you'd want with an old crappy palm pilot except for maybe the automatic map uploading from PC to Plogger to UTEC. Am I right?

Great idea...
In the future.. if you had a way to export graphics to say a small flat panel or something... It would even make for great eye candy. Feel free to announce it on the site we opened yesterday for tuners.. just register and click submit news.. that'll keep it from getting overwhelmed with all the discussions that go on in this forum that aren't tuning related. I'd definitely be interested in a product like this. (shameless plug for new site: www.wrxhackers.com ) Any kind of ETA on this? |

It could have it's own theme song:
"It logs, It Logs - when plugged into the UTEC it should - It logs, It logs - it's better than bad, it's good!" God i need more coffee... |

Your assumptions are partially correct ![]() You should be able to keep the Logger plugged in for ~24 hours (+/- 4hours) with the "top-of-the-line" model (without it overwriting existing data). I logged view #4 for ~20min and ended up with a 124K file (un-compressed). Factoring in the compression ability, the sky is the limit... The Logger will most likely log screen #4 as it contains the most number of values. The software used to transfer/view the data will be able to strip the columns you don't want for graphing. As for getting the "source code". Talk to TurboXS Pete...(member's directory) Cheers! ![]() |

1. UTECLogger Lite This unit will have ~1MB memory (no visual display) with a target price of ~$99.95. 2. UTECLogger Advanced This one should have ~2MB memory (no visual display) with a target price of ~$129.95 3. UTECLogger Extreme ![]() The ultimate tool will have lots of memory, visual display showing memory used, log being captured, etc. This unit will also have the ability to accept UTEC map files for transfering between your desktop PC and the ECU. Target price for this unit will be ~$249.95. I welcome your feedback and suggestions p.s. Pictures of the prototype hardware should be ready by Friday. Prices and specifications are subject to change at any time. |

I forgot to mention - that when I get a UTEC I will want one of these. most likely the extreme version.
Althouh the price on those is approaching the cost of a palm device with a serial cable adapter. and with a PDA you get all the extras of a PDA plus the stuff mentioned below. Just a thought -Paul |
