Default 06 wrx trans

Hey guys, so I have a 06 wrx and my trans needs to be rebuilt. As it sits it wont stay in fourth at all grinds into fifth and is a stubborn a$$ to get into reverse. It has about 115k on the clock its my daily from home to work 90 mile round trip. I got a quote from a reputable trans place in framingham and they said $2700(ouch) while another in fitchburg said $1500 which works, however the place in fitchburg is um well didnt sound great. Heres the deal I need a place that is good but not going to drain my 401k over a transmission. Any help would be greatly appreciated guys.

Start calling. Maybe call the first shop and see if they'll come down in price when you show them the quote from the other place. How much is it for a dealer to do?

Is that a question or a statement? Either way, it doesn't make much sense. Bren is a tuner. Kaizen is a shop. Kinetic is a shop.

Kinetic should do transmissions
Synaptic should do Transmissions
Wicked should do Transmissions
ECS should do Transmission
EFI should do transmissions

Call them. Maybe they do, maybe they don't. But there's a list of shops that also happen to tune.

If you have to drain your 401k may as well swap to a sti transmission.

If you called, I would first suggest first swapping to a used lower mileage trans as it is your cheapest option for sure. It sounds like it at least needs some synchros and may have a fork issue. We generally recommend against putting money into 5MTs, but on one that does not have a stripped gear, we do to maintenance on them.
