Someone else can chime in because I'm not positive about the 04's but I think you need a jumper block as well. It's pretty easy to make one.

Yes you need a jumper block for 02-05. It can easily be made with 2 paper clips. I recommend the paper clips that have a thin plastic coating on them to prevent a short. You'll never have to remove them ever again :-)

Jumper blocks are only used on 02-05 WRX models in the US. All US STi models only require the green flash connectors to be connected, with the exception of newer 07 or 08+ models with CAN which require nothing.

Can you verify the car is actually going into test mode? After connecting the green connectors, cycle the ignition and you should see CEL flashing along with radiator fan cycles and fuel pump cycles.

Are you able to log the car at all?

Also, post the error message.

Yes the car is going in to test mode, I verified it.

the only think else i did was check the code with Learning Vie to find it has Running Lean Code...

The car had Remote start installed on it does it matter?

Remote start diesnt matter as i have one.

Hook up everything correctly first.

Hit read rom button and then choose your car year type. Then turn the key ON and then hit Okay. When the key is.in the ON position the check eng light should not be flashing.

Also verify your ecu is the stock one. Not one from some other year sti

What?

The ROM code is not a 3 digit number, it should be something like:
A2ZJ710J
or 700J or 500J. Other years look completely different, for example the 05 is:
A2ZJB11J
And the 07 is:
A2UJ000J

So what, exactly, is this number you're looking at?
