I am using the vishnu and I agree with tknodav, its a great pipe. I have heard good things about perrin and pde. My 2nd choice if I knew about them earlier would be to get the jdm uppipe which doesn't have the uppipe cat but it looks very similar to the OEM uppipe on usdm wrx. since you live in the bay area check out i-speedusa.com they sell the jdm catless pipes.

One thing that you should remember about uppipes is that it is a fairly simple piece. It is a piece of bent tubing with a flange at each end and (in most cases) a bung for the EGT sensor. The only problem that people have really had with uppipes is leaks. These leaks seem to be related to bad installations, not the brand of uppipe that was used. I see alot of people saying that you need expansion collars and/or a flex joint, but from what I have read, they all work about the same. My advise would be that whatever uppipe you get, make sure that you install it correctly OR get help to make sure that it is installed correctly.

Default jdm uppipe

anybody know why the jdm uppipe has the section on it that looks like a cat??? What would be the purpose of this if there is really nothing in there? What does the JDM uppipe look like on the inside?

I think you may be refering to the "flex joint", the corrugated metal piece in the center of the pipe. This flex joint allows the uppie to flex when the engine moves, as it does during the course of normal operation.

I am happy with my turbo xs uppipe. I like the fact that it is cast iron and is not noticeably louder than the factory setup.

I got a Perrin. I used new gaskets also. I had a loose bolt that leaked but that was our fault when we installed it. No problems since.

There was a thread that was surveying uppipe-owners somewhere too.
