For starter: Go through the stickied thread on the top of the NA forum that includes alot of sound clips. Get an idea of what you want your car to sound like. The entire exhaust system affects the exhaust note - eg. Header, cat, piping diameter, muffler.

I believe the best way to find out how an exhaust would sound like is to find a local member in your area to have a listen.

If you are just planning to hack off the stock muffler and mount this on there, I would imagine that it would just sound loud and raspy and you will hate it.

As well, when it comes to sound, it's somewhat of a personal perference.
eg. do you want more of the low boxer rumble? of you just want it loud?

If you like the boxer rumble, then you will need to find yourself a borla unequally length (UEL) header. That would give you more of the boxer rumble than any exhaust. These cheap generic exhaust are really only meant to look "good", not sound good.

If you dig the look of this exhaust, just buy it throw it on and see how it sounds. If it sounds like ass, then look into adding UEL headers and/or a resonator to cut out the rasp.

On a stock 2.5i that would sound like a Honda. No rumble whatsoever.

Get UEL headers first so you have boxer rumble.

Get borla replicas. Much cheaper, about $150 and they don't crack like real borla's are known to do. Check out the classifieds on rs25.com, I am sure you can find a set there.

thinking about getting the dc sports universal. Is it too loud, or just right? and is it raspy?

Incorrect. In 06 they changed the header design. If you want to put a borla header on an 06-07 you will need a new cat pipe. And even then you will be battling CELs because they also change the emission control.

Rallisport Racing makes headers for our cars as well as high flow cats. The only downside is turnaround time since it's only one guy making everything. Aside from that, he backs his product and everything seems to be top quality and fit.

My $.02

To give you somewhat of an idea this is mine with a 3" exhaust. But Just so you know you lose power low end and gain a little high end.

its basically this one. not the same exact one but it was the same price range http://www.ebay.com/itm/02-07-WRX-ST...ab4748&vxp=mtr

also i had to have the midpipe extended about 2 inches to make it fit and i also think they had to rotate the flange. This exhaust is meant for a wrx. The exhaust was loud and fun but almost too loud. Its up to you if you wanna do something like this. I switched back to stock with a 03 wrx axleback.
