Talking The fight back from the GTS (Long)

Here's what my friend told me about Celica(He's the driver who believes that he can kick 2.5RS's ass when both are turbo charged with same hp). It's a battle of a manual GTS VS an auto 2.5RS:

- He thinks you guys' statements are biased. You guys know cars, and understand Impreza, but he thinks you guys do not understand Celica.

- He does not think Celica is a better car comparing to 2.5RS, but according to the current condition, 2.5RS will never beat GTS until my friend swap the tranny to manual.(My friend drives an auto on 2.5RS)

- He also he has never heard of anything that's about GTS's high compression that can not handle a good boost, and the problems like, shifting too often at the redline that will destroy the tranny or the engine.

PS. He does A LOT of research on GTS.

That's all folks, but give me some feedbacks. I know it's a lot of stuff to read, but my friend(GTS owner) would be more happily to be convinced if you guys can state the source of your informations. Thankx guys!

This is just my 2 cents....Both cars have good qualities and bad ones. AWD vs. front wheel(which is better you deside..yea i know everyones going to say AWD but not always true in all cases). V-TEC vs non(which is better you deside..yea i know everyones going to say V-Tec kicks ass but what about low end-off the line.)

From my experience off the line theres no way a GTS will keep up. I've raced 2 and they didn't kcatch up until like 80 maybe its the drivers but i knwo i launch my car like theres no tommorrow.

Reliablility well haha sorry guys i have to go with the toyota. Especialy with our trannys and 2nd gear. But thats why you spend 3 grand and get dawg gears DUH hehe.

overall funness i've never actually drivin a GTS hard. All i know is that my friend has a GSR and my other one has a Z3 and funness i have to go with the AWD subaru even though yes that is bias but hey you have to be with your own car right.

Basically if you like your own car good i will always say my cars better than your and i will never try to convience you that your car isn't as good.

If you like your car good and thats all that matters. Sorry for the long post.

He obviously knows that the spacing on the 6 speed gate causes mis-shifts that will vaporize an engine as I know at least 2 people personally who have done that with their GT-S's. They can handle boost (5psi but I wouldn't push much higher than that without plenty of money for EMS and other items) but get really squirelly.

Wow... I didn't know the GT-S had a 6 cog box! That's kinda cool. I was just at the Toyota sight to check it out and did the comparo thing against a 2.5RS... the comparo says a 4wd system isn't availiable on the Subaru Anyway, about one car being any faster... it is comparing apples to oranges. How much are you paying, what you get, how well do you drive? All things I look at when I drive a car. Look at the Camaro vs. Mustang in the domestics. Camaro has much more HP... torque... priced about the same. The Camaro is dead though, nobody bought them and GM pulled the plug. It's more than just performance figures... just cause a car has a six spped box and 15 more HP dosen't make it a better car. I'm not being biased as this applies to everything.

I used to own a GTS. I just sold it and am waiting for my WRX to come in. Truth is the Celica has made some decent numbers on boost. Right under 300 HP. In a 2500lb car this should be very fast (from a roll as it still cant launch that well). Anyway this argument is pretty meaningless because the RS will be able to pump out more HP and more Boost much easier than the celica. Mostly because the upgrade path is a known factor. There are no street celicas running around with more than 300 hp. There is only one kit right now that in all truth is not a kit. You have to take your celica to XS engineering for a month and they will get you to 280hp for 6grand. Kind of expensive if you ask me. There may be great power locked away in the celica's motor, but no one knows how to get it to come out in the open. If they do they sure are not telling. Christian Rado will be running a celica this year, and with any luck we will see big HP numbers from him, but since his motor has to last all of a mile (and trd has given him 3 for each event) i dont ever expect a street celica to put that kind of power down. The celica has an advantage of light weight, but it has limited launching traction, its 11.5:1 compression ratio and highly tuned NA style Cams. The comparison of the 2 with = hp and such is really meaningless. You can make more hp and more torque out the RS at this time, so why limit yourself?
