I bet they'd make more $ if they simplified and offered this car to mortal men rather than only the super rich.

Avanti, you've made this forum worth reading all these years, I'm glad you're at peace. You will be missed.

I agree with these. I get it on a hypercar halo that is meant to be a marvel of engineering (McLaren P1, Porsche 918, LaFerrari) to showcase what your company is capable of and forge the technologies of tomorrow. I'm ok with the hybrid stuff there. It's remarkable. But this just seems to be a concept made to be unmarketable for what the price point will inevitably be. Like Hip said, it's vaporware.

oh man Avanti, I'm so sorry to hear the results of your test, but I'm glad to hear you've found peace with it. while I'm not a very vocal person on this board, I'd just want to say a sincere thanks for all your contributions to this forum. you turned this forum into my version of reading the paper every day. and buddy, if you ever get to thinking about how your life affected others? just know you have leagues of people here who feel the same as I do. thanks man.

and to keep it on topic - how can they make a halo car that packs more tech into it than the R8, cost more than an R8, but make it look like a 2 door version of a next-gen A4 wagon?

Audi's on-again, off-again Sport quattro coupe could arrive in showrooms as a regular-production model in 2015.

Previewed by the Sport quattro concept that bowed in Frankfurt last September, the car will ride on a shortened A6 platform and feature a lightweight body constructed out of carbon fiber and aluminum. When all is said and done, the Sport quattro is expected to tip the scale at roughly 2,850 pounds.

The production car will ditch the concept's 700-horsepower plug-in hybrid drivetrain in favor of a more conventional 2.5-liter five-cylinder engine lifted from the RS Q3 parts bin. Tuned to deliver about 50 ponies more than in the RS Q3, the mill will send approximately 360 horsepower to all four wheels via Audi's famed quattro all-wheel drive system.

Engine aside, the production Sport quattro will be nearly identical to the concept version. Its overall shape will hark back to the original Sport Quattro but it will blend in with Audi's next design language thanks to a hexagonal grille with honeycomb inserts, angular headlights that pack the firm's new Matrix Beam technology and rectangular LED tail lamps out back.

The coupe will offer room for four passengers in a luxurious, leather-upholstered cockpit. Audi's latest infotainment technology will come standard.

If the report is accurate, Audi will publish a full set of details about the production-bound Sport quattro next year.

Default at a loss

R5, I'm grateful to have known you.

It's been almost 7 years since I sold my Studebaker. Someone asked me recently if I missed it and I told them that, although there were days I missed it and days I was glad to be rid of it, I will always look back on the ownership experience fondly. I learned a lot about the old car hobby with that car.

Similarly, I learned a lot about keeping up with auto industry innovations by reading your posts. Just seeing your screen name next to a post is a gentle reminder of a part of the car world I used to inhabit. I know some of your posts have been gentle reminders directly intended for me.

I wish you peace for the rest of your days on this journey. Know that whenever I see one of Raymond Loewy's plastic GTs (the originals, not the IIs... well, okay, maybe even the IIs) I'll think of you and wish you well on your next journey.

Audi has confirmed that its superfast Frankfurt show car will be going into production as a standalone GT range......

So Audi is planning to offer a very slightly watered down version of the car as a serious GT car that will sit just below its R8 hypercar in terms of price tag and performance, but then also offer the car with smaller engines and different levels of trim to make it more appealing to more potential customers, and to lower production and development costs sufficiently to bring the car to market within the next two years.

In an interview this week with Top Gear, Audi's chief engineer, Ulrich Hackenberg, explained: "We used a powerful powertrain to position it [The Quattro]. But the potential is to have more volume. It needs a high investment so it makes sense to use other engines."

Expect to see the Sport Quattro on the roads before 2017.

As a general rule of thumb, I always trust an engineer named Ulrich.

I would settle for a TTS or TTRS wrapped in this boxy body...oh yes I would. Damn the Cam4ro comparisons! Give it!

This is the most exciting and most depressing thread ever, BTW.

On one hand, I'm still not crazy about the styling; it really does look like a Teutonic Camaro.

On the other hand, I have to admit I'm kind of jealous that Audi is following in the grand German luxury car company tradition of offering 37 gajillion different flavors of coupes and sports cars in their lineup, when the Japanese (even the non-luxury big volume names like Toyota/Honda) companies still really couldn't be arsed to give a damn.
