I have a semi serious question about boost control.

In running in SCCA, I cannot touch boost. What has to be done with the UTEC so it DOESN'T affect boost?

Also, what do you think I can do to prove to my comeptitiors that I'm not controlling boost with the UTEC? A simple tattletale boost gauge won't be enough as they generally only show highest boost. Well, you don't get full boost in 1st gear but with a tattle tale gauge you won't be able to tell. Suggestions?

You can elect to let the factory ECU control boost; when you view the boost map, the rows/columns will be filled with "ECU", rather than a percentage of boost solenoid duty cycle. Hope this helps.

If you were going to do this, you MUST leave the ABC uninstalled as it changes the effective duty cycle on the FBCS.

Set the boost to ECU and you should be ok. As for how you prove it? I have no idea how strict they are about this stuff.

Good luck... I was having this conversation yesterday with some of our solo-2 guys.

It's like saying, you can buy the WRX... but you can't buy it with the STI suspension, which IS a USDM option, even if it came FROM THE PORT that way, they still wouldn't let you run in A-stock. It's more like S-mod.

Same thing... you get the UTEC, since it's an aftermarket part, expect to be in a modified category... doesn't matter if you left all the boost setting to ECU... All the whiney SCCA guys will still scream foul!

Face it.... they fear the car as is.

Keith,

What you have to do is PHYSICALLY not allow the UTEC to not control boost. It is not going to be enough to show that the maps have "ECU" written on them. I could do the same thing, but then have another map, exactly the same, with the boost control that I could switch to as soon as I roll into the starting lights.

What my idea was, was to bypass the boost selinoid control wire. Basically cut the harness and bypass the utec on that wire and you will not be able to control boost even if you want to. That way you could pull the carpet up and show people that you CANNOT control the boost.

Now Im not sure if this is going to work, and Im not going to get a chance to test it for another month or so, but if you email me about it later, I can tell you my results.
