Default Formula One 2013 - Round 11: Shell Belgian Grand Prix

Sorry to steal your thunder, Rog, but the public is getting restless. Last year's thread:

Spa-Francorchamps
Race Date: 25 Aug 2013
Circuit Name: Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps
First Grand Prix: 1950
Number of Laps: 44
Circuit Length: 7.004 km
Race Distance: 308.052 km
Lap Record: 1:47.263 - S Vettel (2009)

Two DRS zones, pit straight and Kemmel straight. Red Bull supposedly revealing their lineup but now an article on the ever accurate PlanetF1 News says they won't do so at Spa. Can Jenson drag the McLaren up a few spots at a track he is notoriously strong at? Will Mercedes continue their strong run? Can Grosjean take out less than half of the championship contenders?

After a month long break with no F1,

Hopefully Merc & Ferrari can do something to keep Vettel from gaining more points. I hope Vettel doesn't win first place this race so hopefully Alonso can take first this race to gain more points.

those long stretches should be and advantage for Merc. i heard somewhere Lotus were going to try out their new passive drs, but not sure how official it was.

let's go Merc>Lotus>Ferrari>RBR

I agree, the long straights will be perfect for Merc. I got a feeling Merc will be coming out on top in qualifying.

When Vettel wins, it's never interesting no matter where they are. Spa included, unfortunately.

Spa isnīt really a RedBull race track. Mercedes gets a new aero package, place 1 and 2.
Lotus has the new E21 (10 cm longer) place 3 and 4, than the Force India and McLaren, and after that the RedBull will fight with Ferrari and Toro Rosso to be part of Q3

i agree that the Mercs should be strong, but hopefully their new aero package doesn't undo the progress they've made with tire preservation. they still need tires to hold it flat through that uphill sweeper! i'm looking at Kimi (surprise!) for the win! he's very good here.

Kovalainen gets Spa and Monza FP1 drives

Caterham has announced that Heikki Kovalainen will drive for the team in FP1 at both Spa and Monza.

Kovalainen - who drove for the team for three seasons before being dropped at the end of 2012 - has previously driven for Caterham during free practice in both Bahrain and Barcelona. On those occasions Kovalainen's experience was being used to evaluate a major upgrade on the car.

Caterham confirmed via Twitter that Kovalainen would be taking part in the next two FP1 sessions, taking over Charles Pic's car in Belgium and then Giedo van der Garde's at the Italian Grand Prix.
More confirmation that money trumped talent. I'd want to tell them to stuff it but getting some practice sessions in won't hurt his chances for a drive next year if he's gunning for one, which I'd imagine he is.

Didn't get a chance to watch the practice sessions yet. Where was Merc losing time? 9th and 12th is horrible for them.
