Thumbs up 2001 Rallycross season

OK, this is WAY TENTATIVE, and will depend on location avail. but here is the schedule we are looking at for 2001..

march 4
July 3 (yuck, way hot, and the holiday, input?)
Sept 2 (in prescott at the new fairgrounds)
Oct 6 or 7 (with the Prescott Forest Rally)

let me know if i step on any other big event dates that I may not know of...

I am still tracking down sponsors so if anyone knows of any (Bud has been a big help, thanks) let me know..

Bill

Cool Bill. What cities are you considering for March and July?

I haven't tied down the locations yet, but I am looking for one on the west side and one on the east side. If we can find a permanent home for the event though it would be better. (that is the plan for the 2002 season)

how much space do you need?

Also would anyone be interested in having it in New Mexico?

How much room is needed for a good course? Surface?

Bill,

Here's a suggestion. Instead of doing one event a quarter, how about compressed calender? I think the only reasonable locations you could find for a July event would not be in the state of Arizona.

How about something this: one event in each of September, November, January, and March. Or maybe two months back to back (say October and November or November and December) with a month or two off then two more months back to back (January and February or February and march)?

It's just to hot to do much of anything in the summer in AZ.

That's my $0.02,

-Bud

PS: Have you tried any Subaru dealers for sponsers yet?

XT6, you need a few acres to do it up right, we have definately done it on less. I'd probably make the trip out to NM to run (I have some top secret, covert, Tarmac rally road inspection to do out there anywho) but someone else would have to org it. The surface should be good hard pack dirt with minimal rocks and it needs to be flat and level.

now, the schedule.... a compressed schedule is a great idea. I would like to keep the Sep Oct dates and was thinking about March and April. It would have to be April 1 though...

...in NM none the less. That wouldn't have anything to do with the WRC, now would it?

I like the idea of an April-Fools rally. The September 2nd date might still be a little warm. Maybe that one should be up North somewhere.

Question

No chance of trading Oct for April in Prescott? (Start and end the season in Prescott.)

Any ideas for locations around Phoenix/Gilbert? I haven't had a chance do do much looking, personally.

I'm from SW NM. Between the state line and Lordsburg(Hell), NM on I-10 there are some areas that might be suitable. Or maybe across the Chiricaua Mountains in Mexico would be even better, and the drive there is great!

having the event actually in Mexico will not be possible (insurance, govt intervention, etc) but out in the boonies may be viable... do you have any contacts for land owners out there?

Its about 30 miles SE of exit 34 on I-10. There's not much around except that abandoned town. I don't know what kind of companies usually sponsor rallies, but if we could get Phelps Dodge to sponsor, it would be great. The town has only been empty about 8 months, and there are a lot of houses and apartments that we might be able to stay in for free. If it doesn't work out though, I could show you a dozen more possible locations within 100 miles of the lakebed.

Have a Nice Day?

Kastle,

That's exactly what I'm worried about. That, and spending the night in a Mexican jail in my underwear. Oh... wait a minute, that was someone else.

Depends on where you want to have it. There is a dry lakebed that might work well, called Playas. It is owned by Phelps Dodge, but they shut down their smelter out there over a year ago. 3 miles away is an abandoned town. If you are interested, let me know. I may be able to work something out with them where we can use the bowling alley, the park(which has a large pit barbeque and serving area - the company used to roast whole cows at a time and serve free BBQ beef). It might be cool - a deserted town full of Rally fans! Anyway, let me know. If that doesn't interest you, and you find somewhere in SW NM you want to have it, I can probably help with the land owners(NM is a small state, everyone knows everyone, and my dad is especially well connected among the ranchers and farmers who own most of the land). If you head down there to check it out and want to give me a call, I could show you some areas that might work well. Let me know.
