Those volvos in the world challenge are not volvos anymore. They are moded up the whazzo. The subarus in grandam are very close to stock. Their reliability sucks because they have to be similar to stock and can't hold it together for 2 and a half hours. The rear diff can't and wasn't meant to deal with that punishment and had issues all last season.

Phoenix racing dropped the Subies after the Daytona 200 after learning they weren't getting factory support to try and afford all the evolution required/parts breaking.

They ran Mustang(s) in GS the rest of the year instead.

The STI is not a great platform for any type of road racing actually. Hope they can do well but there are huge inherent flaws in the package, I am an ST class fan, but the GS is cool....MX-5's are my favorite in the CTSCC.

You mean having the motor hanging in front of the front wheels isn't good? It's just a backwards 911 Turbo!

Yeah, and a bloated overweight chassis with crippling understeer, crappy diffs, axles, and fragile cooling under race conditions sure doesn't help!

Maybe if they run in reverse it will do better....understeer will immediately fade to forklift like levels of oversteer! One problem gone!

I'm really surprised they went with the STi though. When I heard C360 (which have been as much of a factory Honda team as SpeedSource is a factory Mazda team) where going to field GS Subarus, I swear, I thought they were going with the BR-Z. I didn't know how it would have enough grunt to make GS class and not ST...and well...now I know...lol...

Someone ran a FR-S in the World Challenge at a few events. It seemed like a poor race vehicle too. Maybe another year of sorting problems and the FR-S/BR-Z might show up in CTSCC Street Tuner classes too.

I digress...

Knowing the owner of C360R the guesses as to why they got the cars are quite funny to read. It will be awesome to see them taking a stab at GS with a Subaru platform. They just finished a test about a week ago and the cars are being painted now.

I'm excited that they are coming back with a new team. They did well, just we're unlucky with technical problems.

The World Challenge FR-S has a TRD Supercharger kit on it, and a lot of the issues that they were having were more due to reliability issues than anything else. Developing a new car is not an overnight process, and the team itself had to make the transition to on-road racing from off-road racing, where they came from. Having done a lot of development work on another PWC GTS car over the last 2 years, the single biggest hurdle and where most of the money is spent is to get the car up to power levels on par with those of the Mustangs, Camaros, and factory backed Kias and Acuras. with much bigger development budgets. It's a lot easier and less expensive to make a car slower than it is to make it faster.

Excited to see these cars run again. Saw it in action when they won at NJMP. Not sure why people didn't think they were competitive in GS as pretty much every race they could make top 5. And usually qualified near the top. I think they just had some bad luck and small mechanicals. Certainly would rather see Subaru in this series rather than GRC. As far as Phoenix being a corvette shop, that might be true, but their setup on the Subaru feels pretty damn good to me. I don't have much to compare it too, but the 08 GS STI turns in like a RWD car then get on the happy pedal hard mid corner and away you go!

Sad to see there is no obvious Subaru support. I guess they are stepping farther away from auto racing.

The ROAR before the 24 is not on TV that I can find. The races will be on FoxSports1 and/or FoxSports2

C360 STI 15th place. Not bad given that they are new with driving the STI.

Yeah the Compass360 subu is looks like running great... unfortunately you can't replace displacement... the Aston Martins, Cameros, and Stangs just got more straight line speed... I see a top ten at Daytona though...

Yeah, Daytona isn't a track suited for the cars, but there's lots of others that should.

I can't access youtube here at work - is that link the overall race coverage, or does Compass360 put up their own race recap? I watched the coverage on Fox Sports, but I don't recall seeing the STI. (It didn't help that I hadn't looked online in advance to figure out what the color scheme was. )

It's the TV coverage with the commercials cut out on IMSA's channel.

On a bit of a side note, Kurt Rezzatano (#32 Phoenix Racing Mustang) started autocrossing here just a few years ago, like 2009ish. Soon after he started autocrossing he tried a few track days and time trials. Then he went to work as a tech at Phoenix a couple years ago. One thing leads to another and now he's racing at Daytona! Pretty sweet!

IMSA's website pretty much sucks. One would think that the owners of (and website content managers for) a competitive series would realize that the point of the competition is to obtain results, and that the fans of the series might actually want to see those results. Thus, something crazy like a link at the top of the page for RESULTS would be in order. My local auto-x club can figure that out, but IMSA apparently hasn't made that leap of logic yet!

If you go to the race recap article here, and go down to the bottom of the article, there is a link to the final results. I didn't even see the link initially, since the link is the same white text-on-black background as the rest of the page, and it blends right into the Facebook comment block.
