Default Normal? 04' Baja Turbo w/p&p'd td04 - Video Inside.

Open sourced tuned on 17psi and seems to pull really well, however the turbo screams at just about every rpm. The individual that sold me the turbo said that it makes an unique noise, but I'm questioning whether this is normal. The only thing I can compare it to is a diesel, but it's very high pitched. What do you think? Mods are:

GS 3 port
Ebay DP
Perrin UP
stock intake
Ported and Polished Td04 from this guy, 100% satisfaction. He's done 100s of these and no complaint apparently.

Definitely doesn't sound normal. Check for boost leaks or torn inlet tube or anything funny like that.

the curiously strange thing is it's still making the noise while the boost gauge is in vacuum. :-P

It's definitely the turbo spinning that's causing the noise. Why it's so pronounced is the question.

Is the downpipe made of tin foil?

Any damage to the fins of the turbo?

I'd take the inlet pipe off and check the compressor wheel for FOD.

Yeah it almost sounds like an obstruction in the compressor housing or something acting like a whistle.

or you forgot to disconnect your oscilloscope from your speakers.

it's definitely not coming out of the speakers. It's certainly mysterious.

it does sound just like that, but it's 100% coming out of the engine bay. No boost leaks found today. Someone out there must have heard something like this before...

Did you pull the inlet pipe off the turbo and inspect the compressor fins?

Sure you have good oil flow to the turbo? Could be lack of oil check the banjo bolt filters and the oil feed lines for being clogged

check your inlet itself. i mean check the turbo and all too but ive replaced inlets on a legacy and an outback making the same noise. even the smallest hole or tear will make a big sound difference.

this very well could be it. I'll try to dive into it this weekend. I was kinda thinking the same thing, but my tuner never mentioned anything. I was helping with the install, but after the exhaust and old turbo was out I had to jet and wasn't able to inspect the inlet.

How long has that been? A week? a month? 1000 miles or 10,000. Lol

And what was the original reason for replacing it? Just an upgrade or did the original turbo go bad

Just as an upgrade, and it's only been about a week. Maybe 150 miles on it.
