That sucks. Thats a major reason I traded my 12 impreza in for a Crosstrek.
I was driving on a paved, marked road and hit a GINORMOUS pothole and bottomed out hard. Then when I arrived at my destination, parked next to my "lowrider" was a dmg XV.
I now drive a dgm XV and havent even come close to having this happen again.
Have you thought about spacers for a wee bit of lift?

Is the damage visible, or must you be under the car to see it?

Have you been under the car yet to look around? Speed bumps usually span the entire lane, so I'd want to make sure the exhaust system and so on didn't take any damage.

If you could provide pics from above and beneath the car, we could give you better advice.

But yes, it's always a bummer when a new car gets damaged.

I managed to do some similar damage to my Impreza a few months ago. I'm actually still not sure how it happened. When I first noticed the damage my first thought was that someone had hit me in a parking lot, but the under-side of the sill is not an easy place to hit someone while leaving the rest of the car untouched....

Anyway, not sure how it happened, but here are some pics of my damage:

I got quotes from three different body shops ranging from $500 - $1100 to get it fixed. I went with the shop that quoted $500 and it looks good as new.

^^ Could that have been the result of someone jacking the car incorrectly?

Big fat horse - do you know how they repaired it - did they pull it out?

Again, are you certain it couldn't have been cause by improper jacking of the car, and not by a speed bump?

Notice how on the pics above that the sill is crushed but not the jack point pinch weld? That's what makes it look like an improper jacking incident. If it was a speed bump, I'd expect the pinch weld to be crushed too.

Good question. I never considered this since when I looked at the damage up close it looked so much like a scrape, complete with some horizontal lines running through the gouge. It's hard to see in the pics I posted.

Anyway, I've just checked and I had the car into the dealer for service at the end of February and the end of May. I noticed the damage in mid-May. So I don't believe it was a jacking accident as nobody was jacking up the car in the correct time-frame.

My current theory, which I will never prove, is that I (or my wife) drove the car a little too close to a curb or something while cornering. I don't see how I could have done this without noticing the sound of my beautiful car being destroyed, but who knows.

I believe they pulled the whole panel off, bent it back into shape, and repainted/blended the affected area. The shop that quoted me $1100 was going to repaint the entire panel, which would probably have been a better repair, but I am hoping for the best. That is, hoping that the blended paint and clearcoat won't ever start peeling or anything.

It looks good-as-new now but the texture of the rock guard paint is a little different to the touch, which is, IMO, not a big deal.

Damn, must be some geometry thing. Did you hit it straight on or at an angle?

I just scraped a couple times yesterday, once underneath and I didn't check the damage. One in the front when pulling up to a curb - got the sides and underneath of the bumper pretty good
