I am on the list to get a utec in the next week or two. I will take it slow, as I am a conservative sort. Where do I go to start to learn what the maps represent, how to interperet them, how to use them?
Books, people, online stuff, ect - Anyone point me where to begin to understand engine management? -Z

I am like you- mine will be here soon. What day did you order yours? I ordered mine the second day. I have read on here that turboxs will put out a manual soon. What ever that means. Perhaps Nathan will jump in let us know how soon.

I don't know what day it was... I e-mailed Nathan at txs the same day i first read about it, he returned my e-mail saying there was no list yet, to re-contact him in a week. I did, and he e-mailed back a couple days later asking for my payment info to be sure I was serious, i suppose. He said I sohould see it early october (this was back in late August, I believe)
Looking forward to getting it. I just got my MRT turboback - Exeter Subaru is at least $150 less than anybody else. It should be quite a kick to put in a utec and a turboback upgrading from stock. -Z |

There are a couple of guys from I-club who started a site about tuning. It's www.wrxhackers.com there isn't a lot there yet because they just got it going but hopefully soon some tuning gurus will post some useful stuff there. I would really appreciate learning that stuff to whether it be here there or anywhere.

August 27 mwas the day Nathan e-mailed me asking for payment info, saying I was on the list. I don't know where that puts me, but I am excited about it.
They keep talking about what sounds like a four-position switch for map selection - is this a remote item we can mount some where interesting? i'm gonna hafta see what some other people have done with cables to put the serial cable connections within easy reach. a Panel in the glovebox, perhaps? tantalizing.... -Z |

the wrxhackers.com site is going to be awesome. What a great idea! I checked it out, and it is so new there doesn't seem to be too much there yet - I will register to it and keep checking it out. So glad the WRX community is eager to share and help out. Those who have the knowledge - Bring it on!

Why not pick up some books on tuning cars.
Thats what I did and don't have a problem tuning my own car. While not an expert the process of tuning is faily simple. I've always accounted good tuning by ametures to be a slow process. Where someone like Shiv or TurboXS could tune it in 15 mins ... it might take me an hour or two of driving around and testing new combos. Just take it slow and don't do any dramatic ... like put 30 degress of advance everywhere and hope for the best |

Jorge (RiftsWRX) is putting out a "Newbie Tuner's Guide" sometime in the near future. It will be posted on his site (www.projectwrx.com) and ours for sure (www.wrxhackers.com). Who knows, maybe even TXS will link to is since he did a lot of beta testing for them.
![]() Thanks for the support on our new site guys. Stick with it for a bit. There will be more content there as the weeks go by and more people get interested. The site is built so you can post information to any of the modules. Feel free to submit links, news, reviews, downloads, etc. It only helps the community. ![]() JD www.wrxhackers.com |

mWRX -
can that switch be relocated? I think that taking up the floorpanel is really inconvenient. besides which, I like the idea of using it like a valet made switch to protect the car from family members who might borrow my car, valets, and mechanics who test drive my car for over 12 miles to check for alignment pull (joyriding creeps!) I have a friend who is a electronics engineer who can help me put that switch on a remote whip no matter how it's installed. however, I'd prefer it be easy. People are saying - go get a book on high tech engine tuning, my question is where? Barnes and Noble doesn't exactly have a big selection on that topic. -Z |

I think if your willing to wait TurboXS is devloping something in the way of a remote switch. I'm not sure it's one of the top priorities at the moment but I've heard it's coming.-James

Thanks for the note on the http://www.wrxhackers.com site.
And, if anybody has any additional good books to read on contemporary 4 and 6 cylinder engine tuning, that would be great to know, too. GoodFinder ![]() |

Well, it can be relocated as long as you don't mind desoldering and then resoldering it. If you were to do that you would probably be better off replacing the switch with one that is easier to turn. The one that comes with it is really small and uses a small screwdriver slot to turn it.

UTEC Remote Switch
We are working on it! In the meantime I strongly recommend that you DO NOT remove the switch fitted to the UTEC. The remote switch plugs into the accessory plug (white rectangular plug) and is different to the one fitted to the UTEC. It is more robust and is designed to be fitted to a panel. If you really can't wait, then contact Nathan or myself. Pete (TurboXS) |

Just to let you guys know, we have the UTec manual in .doc format on the WRX Hackers site in the downloads section. Nathan provided it to us earlier today.
Those of you still waiting on your UTec to arrive might want to read through it before you get your new toy.-Tim |
