Default interior vinyl wrap

What kind of vinyl should I use in the 2012 2.0i?

I dont think it matters too much if its on the interior, perhaps theres some law of physics I dont understand though... that it wont... stay on?

I used the 3M vinyl for the silver dash accents and also the "chrome wings" on the grille. The stuff on the grille is in great shape and honestly probably holds up better than the garbage paint.

How much wrap do you think is needed for the accents and the gearbox

I used this:
3M Scotchprint 1080 Carbon Fiber Vinyl Flex Wrap Black CF12 60"x12"

Have A LOT left over. It depends on how well you do it. If you get it the first time, great. If not, youll be needing that extra material. Gearbox though? No idea. Im 100% sure I would mess that up the first time and just call it a trial run. Watch videos on YouTube.

If you plan on doing the dash accents and want to include the accent on the steering wheel as well... have fun with the steering wheel one. Huge PITA.

Plasti-dip is another option as well - not permanent but works well and can always be peeled and re-applied

Ill post a couple pictures this evening. I think Reverand did something similar if you see his car around the forum.

Didnt take pictures of this project because it was absolutely infuriating, but worth the uniformity. Basically... took apart the steering wheel (airbag) and unscrewed the accent.

Popping off the airbag was difficult enough, theres a hole on each side of the steering wheel and you need to stick something in there to push a "release lever", one side at a time is fine. The screw (s?) for the accent were easy enough to get out, but back in... not so much.

Been thinking about doing the pillars in black since I have some leftover, would do one as a test to see what it looks like, then buy more if needed. Should probably get rid of my vibration problems first though...

I was thinking about replacing the stock HU with a sound quality HU..and you seem to have one of the better ones... A little off topic but how does it do in the impreza? Do all steering controls work? What did you do to install it? Wonder if theres a way of making 2 DIN slots look more OEM....

Kind of off topic, but since the OP had mentioned the HU as well... but if youre not changing out the speakers you dont need an 80PRS by any measure.

The headunit itself is great, lots of adjustment options. I have a 3-way active setup that has taken some time to tune, but have some decent sound now.

Used the ae64.com harness and SWC adapter, also the USB cord to keep the armrest USB slot. The SWC "next track" switch (pushed up, not down) will sometimes not work so great, but other times just fine. The bluetooth "answer call" doesnt work, it activates the HU attenuation. It can be programmed somehow, not my biggest concern.

To install it... I soldered the ae64.com harness as described in the instructions and then just "plug and play" for the stock speakers, later upgraded and needed more work.

The double DIN thing... I've heard and seen a few pictures of people getting a JDM bezel. You could look into that.

If I was spending the money and time to replace the HU, I'd definitely go with a double-DIN unit that provides a touch-screen display. In fact, I've already done that very thing:

Double DINs are ugly. I'd only get one for backup cam support, which is also overkill for the Impreza.

Wrapped my passenger A Pillar today as an experiment. Will drive with it for a few days to see how I like it. If I end up liking it I suppose every other ugly beige trim needs to be done...

Wonder if its worth wrapping the headliner with some black suede in that case?

I hadnt even considered it until I did this experiment. Just another one of those "look what I've started for myself" things...

This is one of those it'll grow on you type of things. Still waiting for better weather to get this done. Another idea is wrapping the head unit area maybe?

Really?

I love my double-din touch screen. To be able to smoothly navigate through folders of music, and to see all of the metadata on the screen simultaneously like album name, artist name, song name, and so on (all without scrolling text) is just great.

To me, single dins are just so 1990s. But hey, to each his or her own.

Not trying to go crazy with it. Only somewhat practical applications at least. Its not really something I enjoy doing, not going to lie...

I recommend it. I'm looking at the one they just pulled out of my '12 and it's a crap Clarion. The door speakers look like junk too. I bought mine at Crutchfield and had the local pros put it in. They had problems making the steering wheels controls work. I got a Blaupunkt 830 and a PAC SWI. Crutchfield is sending out replacements and I'm going to try again this weekend. I'll keep you posted.
