Default question on wheel/tire energy etc

So i was thinking, some tires are louder then others, others are extremely quite.

Sound is a form of energy, which mean the tire is losing some sort of energy. *maybe gaining?*

Not sure what im trying to get with but wouldnt the louder the tire/road be a bad thing? Less traction? Quicker tread wear*thou this maybe is just compound of tire..*?
More traction?

Im not the best with this stuff but i started thinking about this randomly at work. If someone cant understand my question ör what im trying to get at, can some One rephrase my words.

Thanks guys for takibg the time to read this!

Actually I think the sound comes from the air moving in between the tire treads and the road. So the energy being used/lost is the air's not the tire's. Tread pattern is what really affects noise, not tire compound in my experience.

Did a quick wiki search and it appears you are right in a way, it states Design of tire tread has an effect upon noise generated.

Doesnt say explain more then that really..

Anymore input?

Yes, there is a minimal amount of energy lost through audible sound generated by the tire, but I doubt it will be significant enough to worry about when compared to other loses.

If you place high value on a tire's rolling efficiency just read the customer reviews and stay away from the ones that seem to have a lot of complaints about decreased MPG performance.
