Question Is there supposed to be a hole through the cat material in the stock uppipe?

Just had my uppipe and downpipe installed today (w00t, it's a whole new beast now ) and noticed something strange with the stock uppipe. About 2 months ago my turbo died and was replaced under warranty, but my dealer never told me what the cause was. I suspect the uppipe broke up and killed the turbo, because when I checked out the stock uppipe today there was a hole clean through the center of the catalyst, and the EGT probe was clean broken off (no CEL though). Any ideas??

Default No holes are not normal

The stock uppipe cat completely fills the uppipe. with a fine honecomb of cat material. In stock form it has no holes in it.

I have seen an uppipe cat core come loose and break a sensor before, probably due to the person running high boost and very rich so it was after burning in the pre-cat and overheating it.

Sounds like you've discoverd the cause of your blown turbo, and something about the service department at the dealership you went to.

So you have been running with no EGT probe for how long with no CEL ??

You might want to give the old down pipe a good shake and see if a probe tip falls out. When you had the down pipe off, did anyone visually check your new turbine to see if it passed that EGT probe tip at low rpm and survived?

Angry

Thanks hotrod. Well, we checked the turbine and everything looked just fine so I don't think the probe passed thru it. Also, when they replaced my turbo, they replaced the downpipe (don't know why), so the probe was probably stuck in there/fell out when they removed it at the dealership. Idiot dealership, last time I ever go there for anything

It's been almost 2 months since they replaced the turbo and I still haven't gotten a CEL

wholy sizt Batman...
I have an uppipe sitting wating to get gutted...
sorry to here the tech is so dumb... the CEL related to the EGT sensor is always optional, If the base of the sensor is in good shape & only the tip is gone it is a posbility it has enough restance to still read(don't ask how)... just not reading correctly
