Unhappy Wrecked

Well... I hit a curb early this morning and did quite a bit of damage! The driver side wheel was pushed all the way back into the wheel. I snaped alot loose under there. The only thing that is still conected is the control arm, everything else is all bent up! I was very suprised how much damage was done for the speed that I was going... So, my weekend just sucked. I also put new speakers in this weekend and now it will be a very long time before I get to hear them again. I'll find out how much the damage is on tuesday. Let you all know...

Default How it happen

I was going down an alley in south denver and was very close to university and wesley. When I came to "the end of the alley" I was not aware that it ended, I tried to make the turn. Well, the alley has a dip in it when it runs into wesley. I hit the dip right before i tried to make the turn. I was turning right and the car was about a foot short of making the turn. When I hit the curb, my brakes were to the floor causing the tire not to role up the curb and just slaming into it. I hit about at 15 miles/hr. O did i mention that there was sand/dirt in patches on the road! The adjuster is looking at the car on Tuesday. It was very strange, the ABS never kicked in. I slid the entire way! Strang. I only have 1055 miles on the car... Boho. O well, I'll fill you in the rest when the adjuster looks at the car.

That sucks. Perhaps why you didnt feel the ABS is because I believe the Subaru AWD system senses traction on the 4 wheels and adjusts the power and braking as well (A lot of people do not like this).

Sorry about your accidnet, I hope you get it fixed and are back on the road shortly

Sorry to hear the bad news man. What did the repair end up being? I did a rather similar thing today

Some driver slid through the intersection I was turning left at, from the road I was turning on. So I whipped the wheel to turn sharper, but being that the road was covered in ice, I just ended up sliding myself sideways.

Luckily the driver slid ALL the way through the intersection so I missed him/her. They drove off while I hit the curb (~10mph), I was left with a rather displeasent rubbing sound and the picture below. Look familiar Brad?

Lucky, my inital prognosis leads me to think the only thing damaged is the rear control arm and the sway-link, and the wheel too of course. Seems they designed it to bend at the certain point saving the frame. With luck my hub isn't broke. Anybody have the part number for the steel lower control arms?

Bad luck for all of us. I was driving down Colorado Blvd. the other day and some dumb ass pulls out in front of me when I was going like 50 mph. When I say pulls out in front of me, I mean there is no way in hell this guy was not going to get hit by someone. Well, I stopped somehow on my snowtires. Problem was that the guy just stopped in front of me?!?!?!?!?!? I looked in my rearview mirror and said S**T out loud. F-150 50 mph in to the rear of my car. Will need a new trunklid and rear bumper. Doesn't look like anything else is too trribly messed up. I'm sure my tailights will "fall out" on the way to get my estimate though. JDM bumper and tailights for me

edit: this was before it had snowed

I'm interested in the lower control arm if you can get it to me for under $50, otherwise I have another hookup. Thanks a bunch.

I wasn't going very fast at all, so I'm not too too worried about frame damage. The control arms are designed to collapse just in the way mine did to save the frame. And besides, even if the frame is tweaked, I'm just going to live with it.

I wouldnt have a problem selling it for $40, Subaruparts has it for $156. The part # is 20200AC210F. Is that what you need? If you are all the way in Michigan shipping might make it more expensive. If you want it though, let me know and we can work something out. Thanks - Brandon

Brandon, I'm not possitive if that is the part number. It says "Transverse Link Ay L" and I don't quite understand it. I may also need other parts besides the lower control arm and anti-sway link, I'm going to take it all apart in about 10 min and see. If I for example need a new strut and hub/knuckle or something absurd like that I'll just see if I can get the whole shebang.

Thanks, I'll keep you updated.

Update:

I got parts to replace what was broken. Went out this morning and got everything fixed except mounting the tire to the new rim. I took a tire from the rear and put it on the front, and put the spare on the rear. Took it for a spin and viola! Rides as good as ever, and the alignment seems just about right where it was. I'm going to get my tire mounted on the new rim and everything aligned today. So far I've spent $120 on parts ($50 of which was for expeidiated next day air shipping).

The tire rubbed through the mud/rock guard thing and took off some paint off the inside of my fender on the ride home. I'll going to put something on it so it doesn't rust, but since the little rock guard looks cosmeticly the same unless you're head is where the wheel is, I'm not going to bother replacing it.

The install of the new suspension arm was very very easy, and everything else seemed in order. A happy ending to a nasty story.

-Brad

He're a picture of my mangled lower control arm...

And the mangled Wheel....
