No I didn't...

I got 3 runs in. My first run I ran a 16.4!!! Why? I thought my nitrous was one but it wasn't. Therefor I launched like I would if I had the nitrous and my car bogged pretty bad

the 2nd run was probably my best run of the night but I didn't get my time sheet!!! When I went to pick it up the lady told me "It's training night in the tower and they didn't reset the tree when you ran. sorry" I waited in line for 45 minutes for that crap!!!

3rd run I raced Bud. My nitrous didn't kick in till half-track. I ran a 15.3 at 90mph. Bud actually beat me by 1/10 to the 1/8 mile but I mad up ground and beat him by 3/10 in the end. Damn nitrous!

So, I left frustrated. oh well, From now on I go to speedworld!

I went also, and was reminded of exactly why I don't care for Firebird either.
I was there for 2 1/2 hours, and got 2 runs in. And the only reason I got the second run in is because Bud and I cheated and got in the "Slicks Only" staging lane.
Either way, I can honestly say that I wont be dragracing anytime soon. I just don't get any kind of thrill out of it.
BTW, my best time was a pathetic 15.9 at 83 mph.

Sounds like it was a bit of a hassle and not worth the time. Sorry you all waisted your time when you could have been doing something better like drinkin a few like myself. Better luck next time.

A whole 3 runs? Wow! We got 7 runs @ SpeedWorld last week, and we left @ 9pm.
You all need to come out here and get more runs in....

Cool

OK, ok, ok... let's put this in perspective.

First, everything Eric and Mike said is true and valid. I'm not contradicting you guys, I just want to expand on it a little. (Plus, I actually bested my best run last night running against Eric's nitrous sniffin' RS. I guess I just needed someone challenging to chase.) So despite the fact that I couldn't time the christmass tree to save my life last night, I may have had a better experience then they did.

Second, Firebird's a mixed bag. No doubt about it, especially in season. If you just want to go race and make a bunch of runs without waiting long, Speed World is definately better - much less crowded and usually much cooler air (being way out in the desert). If you want to bring friends and watch as well as run, then Firebird's better BECAUSE of the crowd. There is an incredible variety of cars out there from Hondas Civics to Dodge Ram V10 pickups to alcohol rail dragsters. Very cool stuff to watch and run along side with.

I guess I'm somewhere in the middle. Although I wouldn't normally wait in line if they were giving away free money (well... OK, it would depend on how much money), I really like to see the variety of cars and watch how they run. I usually like to get in 4-5 runs then watch the other cars all make a couple runs. It really gives you an idea how your car rates (and it helps you get over the idea that you're some kind of bad-ass racer when you see 10 second civics). Also, although I agree that autocross and rallycross are MUCH more fun, I enjoy drag racing too. Hey, Aaron and his wife came out to just watch and I think they had a good time. They certainly wouldn't have enjoyed freezing at Speed World nearly as much without the interesting array of cars to watch.

Third, it was really great to get together with everyone again. I got to meet Puregraphic. (Was it Steve or Scott? Sorry, I'm a moron when it comes to remembering names. In fact, some people would argue that's not the only time I'm a moron. ) I also got to test drive Aaron's new turbo RS. Very cool! (I'll talk about that in another thread.) And, I got to check out Pure's ICE. Also, very cool!

I'm sorry to ramble on like this, but I want to make a point. Although I would definately have preferred it if things would have moved along a little quicker, I certainly wouldn't say it was a waste of my time. It was better then a poke in the eye with a sharp stick any day.

-Red

(What was my best time, you ask? It was 15.635s at a measly 84.99 MPH. My previous best was 15.646s. It's not a great improvement, but it's still an improvement. Too bad my reaction time was over 1s.)

[Edit: I guess I shouldn't ramble on so long. More opportunity for mistakes.]

I didn't race, but I finally got to meet some of you guys - so I had fun(although I froze to death for 5 1/2 hours, next time I'll bring a coat!) When is Speedworld? I might try taking my car out next time, although with 100 pounds of stereo crap in ti, I probably won't get very good times.

Speedworld is every Wed night. See for directions and details. They also have a good FAQ for first time racers.
