Default Anyone buy from grand subaru?

Hey guys just a quick question if you bought your car from grand subaru. After I bought my car the manager told me that they were a mod friendly dealership. Just wondering if any one has experience with theM And what they have allowed you to do to your car without voiding the warranty?

While they might be a mod friendly dealership, if you blow the ringland or other expensive part, the field service manager from Subaru of America could stop by and deny the warranty work if they see any mods.

I should have mentioned that I was looking to do a stage 1 to get out of the stock map and eventually do a stage 2 in a year or so. So I'm looking to see of anyone with the same set up has had any issues?

Remember stage 1 is still flashing the computer, so while the dealership won't have a problem, the manufacture might deny some warranty claims.

Best way to say it...you got to pay to play.

Didn't know WRXs failed ringlands?

I'm sure mod friendly means, "return it to stock and we'll look the other way"...

I don't think it's as often as the STI but I have heard them.

And talking about STI, hopefully going to see a few of them out this weekend.

Borderline Aurora, south of 88.

Can't help you...bought mine from Bill Jacobs (bunch of idiots) and have no intention of letting a dealership ever touch my car.

I bought from them and know of a couple other guys who have as well. They are mod friendly for sure, especially if you get your work done at or by P&L. Though you don't necessarily have to have it done by them, but as long as any parts have been properly installed you shouldn't have an issue. The general manager himself was there the day I picked up my 2013 STi. The GM drives an 07-08 (I believe) forrester XTi. Full turbo back, lowered, wheels, Wilwood big brakes.. The works. I stood and admired his car as mine was parked right next to his during time of pick up. He walked up next to me and saw my car was white as well as his, and complimented my color. I was still glaring at his forrester. He began to tell me all the mods he had done to his. I then told him I would LOVE for mine to be modded and sound like his, however wasn't able to because I didn't want to void the warranty. He laughed and told me "modding doesn't void your warranty, abuse does". I completely agree with him. They also will replace ring-lands 1 time if they do crack (under warranty) and they will give you 1 clutch as well, modded or not. There is a Facebook page called Chitown Subarus. Check it out, there are also employees from grand apart of the page, tuners, and all sorts of Subaru enthusiasts in the Illinois region. They are all awesome with any help or questions you have, not to mention local too. Plenty of guys swing by each others houses to help with installs or issues their having. There is also a local meet every Wednesday night at 6pm in the Schaumburg Hooters parking lot. Any questions you have can and will be answered and usually pretty quickly as well. But to answer your question, yes Grand Subaru is a mod friendly dealership without a doubt.

Awesome! Thanks for all the info! I've been planning on coming it to a meet soon but im stuck in class until 9 so for the next month it won't happen. Ill be honest and say I'm a newbie to all of this and to subaru(I've just admired since I was a kid) so I'm looking forward to meeting a lot of people and learning as much as I can.

There has been meets in Sunday in Naperville but they are starting to slow down. We might try to get a new group together in the next few weeks.

Do not bring your Subaru to Boomba lol. Stick wih Six Star or P&L if you got the cash for it. But everyone will tell you Six Star. Go check out that page on Facebook. Post a pic of your car and a little intro to yourself and you'll see how nice everyone is.

Bringing your Subaru to Boomba is like bringing your Cadillac to a Honda dealership for parts. Personally I'd stick with Six Star. The are affordable, will never sell you or promote something you don't need. Awesome customer service and consumer friendly. When I went to P&L awhile back we ran up a parts list and total was over 5 grand, just for a stage 2 set up. When I went to Six Star it wasn't even a quarter of that price. P&L's tuner charges $500 for a pro tune which is pretty high, Six Star has an awesome tuner who does pro tunes for half of that. And just because they're cheaper doesn't mean they are sacrificing quality. I would go check them out instead if you were that interested. Every shop will tell you the same thing when you walk in, but it's up to you to trust your vehicle with. Plenty of guys from the meets and locally all go to Six Star. One guy even had a full stage 2 with e85 set up and other bits and pieces. Clutch went out at 35k miles. Grand Subaru gave him a new one.

Far as Sunday meets and such, I would be down as well since it's hard for me to always hit the Wednesday ones.

I just bought my wrx from grand and my warranty and they said they still covered with mods done. Long as it's nothing extreme.

Bought mine there as well. Nobody can "void" your warranty the claim will just be denied. Its basically going to come down to what you've modified and what you broke - plain and simple. Develop a relationship with them and that will help should something happen.

The real bit of advice here? You gotta pay to play. Don't expect a dealer to pay for one of your own mistakes. Don't mod your car if your not prepared to face the consequences down the road whether its tomorrow or years from now.

But in any event, Grand is great. Talk to Anthony in service and he'll help you as best he can.

Thanks for the input guys. Like I mentioned before I am not looking to do any crazy mods to the car. I plan to do a stage 2 and keep that for awhile due to my budget. Not looking to start messing around with any internals haha. Also I plan on getting everything that I can't do professionally installed. I'm not one to half as s a project. Thanks again guys.learning more every day on here!

I'm still debating on the tune part. I know they say one thing but i didn't get it in writing, and i'm not trying to pay for a motor anytime soon. I might just do a catback and leave it at that till warranty's done.
