Default Auto AWD to 5SPD RWD?

Ok I want to swap my auto to a five speed. But I also want to convert it to RWD also. Since I will be keeping it as a RWD I will be using my automatic rear diff. Now basically I need to know what all I will need for the conversion.

I know I need:

5SPD tranny
Clutch and Brake pedal set
Weld up center diff

But what else do I need, I tried a search but I didn't find anything and I remember there was a post about this a while back.

My other questions is Can i use the auto driveshaft for the rear?

Can I use the tranny out of a 1995 2WD 1.8?

Will I need the ECU out of a 5 spd?

And what else do i need?

Thanks for everones help.

i think that is all you need aside form the normal auto to 5spd stuff. i believe Cobb Tuning used to just swap in a center diff and dyno the cars in RWD. might wnat to give them a call.

http://www.rallispec.com/
they have a "locked" center diff $800+
I don't know if it will like the abuse...
then you could make some dummy axles for the front or rear end...
just a thought.

I have a similar question. i am looking to buy a RWD japaneese saloon or estate for drifting and just recently found out that Imprezas came with 2wd (RWD???) i found a 1.8 saloon (auto, however) for sale in my local area and was currious to the abilities of the 5 speed trans in 2wd trim and if an ej20t or ej22t (legacy 2.2 turbo if im not mistaken) would bolt to the RWD trans. any info input or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

all subaru 2 wheel drives are front wheel drives, unless they have been modded to rwd

aw god thats gay....i was sooo hopeing for a RWD 4door. BLECH cos i figgure hey its a flat four.... all the other AWD subies engines are in-line with the car ....blech blech blech....are there any damned USDM 4door compact to mid-size japanese vehicles that are RWD? obvious exclusions are the IS300 and G35 and GS300 because of price constraints, is there anything from the 80s available...ohhh the 80s! haha....What am i to do?

you mention convert it to RWD. is there a RWD OEM tranny that would work with an ej20t, for example, in a GC8? remember that i am looking to build a drift car and i am sick of seeing hachi-roku and silvias and 180's. i want something different. i have heard great things about the steering and chasis of the GC8 and was hoping maybe i could take advantage of it RWD style. is there anyway to take an impreza 2.2 L and cap off the differential and remove the front axles? then add aforementioned EJ20T and go have some slide-ways fun?

Basically to make it RWD for the 5 speed is to weld up the center diff and remove front axles. But it isn't possible with the auto I don't think.

well I haven't done this on a AWD car, but I have done this numerous times on old Subarus that were 4x4 (you actually lock in the rear end manually)
I had some front axle stubs that the CV's were gutted & I'ld stuff one in place to keep the front end together...
Ahhhh the days of the GLwagon...

Actualy to me that looked like a AWD burnout donut. It looks like what the AWD Diablo I saw do one.

That is an AWD burnout. See the smoke coming from the inside front tyre?

If you want a RWD drifting car then the Impreza may not be the best choice. It's the AWD system that makes the car shine above competitors. Now put some crappy tires on my car and it drifts mighty well. Especially on gravel.

ProjectXXX,

try a 89-94 niaan 240sx. they have a sedan version, but the coupe is much better looking. 155hp after 1991, sr20 turbo swap is easy, and some of the parts are even swappable with impreza parts.
