Default Putting a Pioneer in my 2013 WRX

Hey guys!

I am deciding between the Pioneer AVIC-X930BT and the Pioneer AVH-X5500BHS.

I've been all over the Pioneer website and have been trying to figure out why the AVIC is marked at twice the price of the AVH. I like the look of the AVH better and it seems to be just as good in every way, but why would it be half the price? Is there something I am missing here?

Would really appreciate some feedback on the matter!!

Im looking to get the X5500 (this is after tons of research for what I wanted and my budget). You can always use your smart phone for nav if you don't want to shell out the extra cash for the AVIC.

Also using this headunit and can vouch for it. Why pay $XXX more for navigation when you can download Waze for free and have a BETTER navigation experience?

If I hook up my iPhone via bluetooth, can I play my music on it as well? I looked around and it doesn't specify.... Figured I'd ask you.

Yes I use the bluetooth every day, all you have to do is have your bluetooth activated on your phone before you turn on the car and when you fire it up you'll autoconnect to the headunit. Super simple.

If you want the 930BT it is an extremely easy install since it was a factory option in Canada.

I use the AVH-X8500 with my S4. I am mirror my phone screen onto the deck using the Samsung S4 MHL adaptor. I am not able to use the deck touch screen to control my phone but I don't really need it to. Bluetooth from deck to the phone links up really fast and phone call quality is 100% better than it was when I had my Kenwood DDX418.

I have the X5500 and I love it. Its quick with bluetooth phone controls and also ipod controls. Scrolling through music on your ipod from the X5500 is really nice. Its fast and allows you to "go back" to the previous folder. Aaaand it looks really nice and clean without all the physical buttons taking up screen space.

This is my install with the JDM bezel. Highly recommend it so you don't have to use the ugly install trim piece.

I'm debating between the 8500 and the 5500. Question for you...The only major differences between the two that I found were really the storage options i.e. the smart card reader and the dual USB capabilities, as well as the dual area display capability, if one were to get monitors for the back seats. Do you find that you practically use these additions over what you would get with the 5500 that doesn't have the options? It's just a matter of price, different places show ranges of prices of course but generally it seems like a $100 difference or so, which is no big deal, but why spend the extra if I really won't need to.

You can get it from avojdm, or any Subaru dealership.

This is a desirable part for aftermarket stereo installs because it eliminates the gap around an aftermarket radio without a filler panel AND it allows you to use the metal OEM mounting brackets as opposed to the plastic ones that come with a dash kit. If you are buying a headunit from a place that does not include a free dash kit, save the ~$20 on the aftermarket dash kit and get the JDM bezel.

You used to only be able to order these from special importers at a huge markup, but some innovative people found that there is a USDM part number for them:

I personally actually like the look of the avic better. IMO, the matted finish of the 930/940 looks way cool, but have you looked into the app radio 3? i have installed these for customers and they are way cool. They now have dvd/cd and no longer suck.

I have AVH-8400BH installed, I use an iPod connected and stored in the glove box to play music and run apps from. The iPod works great with NavFree for Navigation and you can control it on screen. I have my Galaxy S4 connected via bluetooth for streaming video, phone calls, and txt msging.

Another feature I like about this setup is the ability to sync my Ipod automatically with my laptop over my home wifi connection. Every time I park my car in the garage, I have it set to automatically sync with itunes for any new music/playlists I have have added.

and Carbon wrapped:

I have the 8500. Don't forget about the detachable face plate. That's a huge plus.
