Question How many are interested in a set of 15" steel wheels?

[Edit: *** $29 ea. New info, see below ***]

I'm going to check to see how many 15" steel wheels this salvage yard I've found has available. When I talked to them last, they said they wanted $35 ea. ($140 for a set of 4 + tax) for them. Maybe if we buy a bunch of them they'll come down on the price.

I will be interested, but I have to clear it with the boss first.

Ron said he was interested too (in another thread) so I'll see if they'll drop the price if we buy an even dozen. (Although I'm not going to just go pick them up in advance. At least not yet.)

OK, I stopped by the used tire & wheel place today and had them test mount one of the wheels to my right front corner. They are NOT Subaru wheels, but they look like they'll fit just fine. (The one we tested had a Chrysler emblem stamped on it.) They have the right bolt pattern and they clear the brake calipers with plenty of room to spare. The offset is not exactly correct, but it looks VERY close and I think it will work just fine. (My stock alloys had a 53 (+53mm) stamped on them and my guess on these is right around +50mm. Maybe someone on-line knows something more about Chrysler 15" wheels.)

The guy I talked to was very cool about the whole thing. He said he'd sell me a dozen of them at $29.00 each. That's $116 for a set of 4. I think that'll be hard to beat anywhere. They charge $5 to mount and $5 to balance (although he said if we were buying the wheels from him he'd cut us a break on that too).

When I get my rally tires (which are costing me $30 more then I had planned due to expensive shipping costs ), I'm going back down (probably next Saturday) to have him mount and balance tires on the wheels. If at least two more people will commit to me that they'll buy 1 set of 4 each, I'll pick up the extra wheels and bring them with to the rallycross (or you can meet me at the used tire and wheel shop and we could take care of it on the spot). They might have enough for one more set of wheels, but a few of them were bent. I'm confident we can get 3 clean sets, 4 might be pushing it.

Here's a recap of the info:

- 15" steel wheels (not Subaru, but looks like a good fit)
- $29 each ($116 for a set of 4) + tax
- We need to buy at least 12
- I will bring them to the rallycross if you don't want to meet me there. (If you back out on paying me I'll post horrible things about you and local farm animals all over the internet. I'm really very broke right now.)

The shop is:

L & J Tire & Wheel - (602) 273-6882
5014 E Van Buren St PHOENIX AZ 85008-7007

Located just West of the 202 on Van Buren, Phoenix. (BTW: They have a few acres of tires, they might have some dirt-capable tires if you call and ask. Tell them you know the guy with the Red Subaru with the "Red Imp" plates.

Let me know by the end of the week,

-Red

I dug this up a somewhere in the classifieds:

15 x 6 steelies:
Here's the part number for Subaru wheels:

28111AC100TO 704 TAKE OFF W

They charged $35 per wheel at dealer.

Subaruparts.com charges 12 ea +50 shipping = 98 to your door for 4.

Those are take off wheels removed from cars that came with stock wheels and the buyer purchased alloy as an upgrade. That's a little cheaper and a guaranteed fit. You may want to call them, if you can't get enough buyers. I wasn't going to be able to get the wheels until sometime after the rallycross, I was saving for a helmet first. The mounting an balancing sounds like a good deal, is that 5 per tire? Also, would he do it if I brought them back later cause if I was able to get the rims, I won't have tires for a while.

$5 mounting and $5 balancing is per tire ($40 for all 4), which is still better then the $90 that Discount Tire screwed me for. I have been back to L & J twice. I spoke to the same guy each time and I'm pretty sure he remembered me. So, he might still give you a good deal on mounting and balancing if he knows you got the wheels from him.

That's a great price from SubaruParts.com, I wish they were local. I'm running out of time to have them before the rallycross, so I'll probably still get the wheels at L & J. He might still give me the $29 price even if I can't get the whole dozen right now.

I'd like to start building relationships with local businesses who are aware of out Subaru club and who give us their best prices and services. It doesn't have to start with L & J, but I thought it might.

Well, I got my rally tires, (these things are mean looking), so I'm going to go this weekend and get the wheels. If you want a set of these wheels, you'd better speak now or get them yourself.

Man Bud, I wish I could, but I also have no extra money floating around. And unfortunately the wife unit refuses to budge this time.

She thinks I should only be spending money on 1 car at a time!!! HA I say!!! What does she know?? She obviously has no idea just how important a set of steel wheels for the Subaru are!!! So what if I just bought a second set of wheels for my Volkswagen, that doesnt mean anything, since I can't drive it right now!! Sheesh!

Anyway, sorry I can't do it right now.

I'm going to get the wheels today. If you want them after this you'll have to go get them yourself. Phone and address info is posted above.
