Angry My Subie Was Raped :(

Someone broke into my car last night. The took $3000 dollars worth of custom car audio, a $400 set of golf clubs, and $2400 worth of Home theatre stuff I bought yesterday to pre-wire my house for sound. Not only did they steal, but they vandalized. They broke both side windows on the driver side (one would have been more than sufficient) pried the trunk open with a crowbar (instead of using the trunk latch by the driver's seat) and completely destroyed my dash. I will only have to pay my deductible ($500) for the damage, but I wont get any money fro anything that was stolen. Also, the insurance company is getting its own quotes and their lowest is the most that they will pay - so I can't have the car fixed at the dealer.

That really sucks man!!! Sorry to hear that.
Unfortunately this kind of thing does happen, it just really sucks.
Are you a homeowner? Your homeowners insurance might cover the stuff stolen. Also, if you bought it with a credit card, sometimes the credit card company will automatically give you a theft warranty, or break warranty. You might try those options to recover some of your losses.
Good luck.

Man I F-ing hate thieves. Sorry to to hear about your misfortune. Sounds like someone who knew you. Or know about your car through someone else. That just sucks. I would pay the deductable and change insurance carriers. They obviously don't have your back. When I had my GSR, they stole my sounds and about 100+ cds. My insurance covered it all, and my rate didn't go up. Good luck to ya.

Damn that sucks! Do you live in an apartment or house? It almost sounds like someone saw you put all the hometheater stuff if your car and chose that as they night to strike.

Let me know if you need any help installing new stuff, and I will be glad to help you out.

Oh man I hate to hear this. I'd be so mad I probably couldn't speak straight (I certainly couldn't speak with a civil tongue.)

Like someone mentioned above, a break-in that just "happens" to occur when you have a bunch of extra stuff in the car sounds like someone who either knew you or saw you loading the stuff into the car. Work with the police, maybe the'll get caught.

The only bigger crooks the the thieves are the insurance companies (they're just organized crime in my book). Consider them adversaries! I believe they should pay for everything for which you can show a receipt. You may have to make a serious ass-hole of yourself to keep from getting raped again. (Hmm... sorry, that didn't come out quite right. )

My condolences, good luck,

-Red

I am very sorry to hear what happened.

I have had 3 cars broken in to and 1 car outright stolen. I have lost audio equipment, personal stuff, my tools ( which i was most pissed about) .. I have learned one thing..

Dont leave anything in your car that you wouldnt mind losing.

re: getting the car fixed: It all depends on the insurance company.. some require you go to "company approved" repair places.. Most insurance companies provide you with some choices.. If not, after this find a new insurance company, there are tons to pick from.

just my two cents.

Thumbs up

Thanks for all of the support and advice. My insurance is through Geico. I can go anywhere for my repairs, but they will only pay what they determine to be "Fair and reasonable" which basically means the lowest quote that they could find in the valley. I have had 2 vehicles stolen and two vehicles broken into, and they always gave me money for the stuff I lost (usually a fixed amount, e.g. $500.00), but this time they are saying that my homeowner's insurance should cover it, not them. I am in the process of buying a house. I live in an apartment so I don't have any insurance.

Oh well - such is life. (If any of you have any spare dash parts laying around, let me know and I'll buy them.)

Sorry to hear about the breakin. A similar thing happened to my wifes car. We went on a vacation to visit some of my old friend I had not seen for close to eight years. We had pulled up to the hotel, very nice one highly recommended by people we knew, checked in brought our bags up to the room. Came right back down to go for lunch and found the car broken into. They took every thing that was left in the car. Luckly they did not do alot of damage or steal the CD player (just all our CD's that we had with us). Called the police and got an answering machine because car theft is so comman. That was the longest 12 hour drive we have ever done, because we only picked up 2 CD's for the drive home and there was some long stretches where there was no radio stations. Well back to the topic we made a claim through our home policy for the stolen items ,they were suprisingly easy to deal with. They arranged for us to buy the items stolen at cost. We just had to pay the deductible ($200), and they waived the deductible on the car. Point of the story is if you have home owners insurance or aptartment insurance you might be able to get back some of item replaced.
