Default New Subaru owner - 2014 WRX Sedan

Hello,

Not sure if this is a good place to post this but I figured a newbie section looks like a good place and others have posted as well. I am recently coming from a Euro car scene (BMW) and had a very well loved E36 M-poster which I enjoyed. Times got tough and I went with a 2003 E39 (5 series) for about 3.5 years to keep myself out of trouble. I was doing good until the car started falling apart. No matter how much I put into it. Trans started going and my wife and I said "nope". A good friend of mine, a bugeye owner and enthusiast took me around to look for cars. I toyed with the idea of a WRX and a few friends (owners) encouraged it. Some were STI owners, some WRX. Well... my friend taking me on a used car tour brought me to a few used WRXs on the web to look at. All were beat, lied about, and or had something wrong that car lots tried to hide. I was sad about it but moved on.

Then the next day on our way to look at more cars (new and used) he needd to stop at the Subaru dealership for a part. I asked if he mind that I take a look at some WRXs which I considered out of my price range. Looking never hurts. Well, that was all it took.

2014 WRX Base with no options but oddly enough an STI short throw. I am now at 850 miles on the clock and loving each one of them. Sorry for the long winded post but I am pretty excited about the car. People that drive by in their Subies give me honks, waves, revs and smiles. Not used to that. Euro scene was... well.. rude usually.

Welcome to the forums! You will learn alot from this place. Make sure to read the stickies and search before posting questions.

It takes a little to get used to the Subie wave, some people in my area don't even do it.

*PS: don't let the mod bug bite you. it will never end with this car!!

Thanks for the welcome. Yeah, I keep hearing "Warranty" in my head but still find myself looking at things already.

Thank you. I thought it was a myth but the waves or honks apparently do happen, hah.

Congrats on the buy. I don't get any waves. Mostly I get racist gestures when I drive the WRX. LOL.

Curious, what is a "racist gesture"?

The other day I was just sitting at the light and some dude next to me yelled out eggrolls and pulled his eyes back with his fingers. Pretty much calling me a chink because I'm asian. Most of them usually yell out dragonball z, eggrolls, ching chong, but whatever. LOL. Doesn't bother me.

Welcome! I'm coming from an e46. Great cars, you just need to be very strict with the maintenance or they are a headache. It'll be nice to mix things up with the subie

Oh, wow. I think of a gesture as flipping the bird or peace sign. That's just some facked up racist shizz right there! Get outta the south and come to the northwest where we're all friendly!

Wow, I'm asian and I can't say that's happened to me yet while driving my car.

Welcome! My STI is silver, I was on the fence as well when I first got mine but I ended up going with a black on silver look with tinted windows, black wheels, just waiting on black side badges and I gotta say it looks pretty awesome now. A word of warning though, I would carry a microfiber cloth or something in the trunk, bc as soon as it rains you'll start seeing dirt streaks below the doors from the door seals, it really stands out on the silver, but use that to wipe it down real quick. It's not a real problem, just an annoyance IMO.

Try being a white guy driving through the Compton or Watts areas. I haven't had to in a while but I used to get the "what's a cracker boy doin' in the hood?" stare all the time. I always just made sure I had my doors locked and windows rolled up.

Welcome to the forum, OP. Always nice to see another silver brother join the mayhem here.

Nice car! When you're for some power, the COBB AccessPort is a great way to wake the car up and is a good starting point for future mods.

Thanks all. The car is going for tint tomorrow after work. Can't wait. Decided to hold off on mods for about a year (engine) to get used to the car and keep myself out of trouble. Especially since the wife and I agreed on getting a new car for the warranty and maintenance. The way I see it is that I have plenty of time to have fun with it. I have a set of springs on the way but won't be putting them in for a few months. Part of it is me wanting to know the car well first and then have something to compare against. It will take a tremendous amount of willpower not to have them installed right away :P

I already noticed the streaking being noticeable on the door since it decided to rain today. San Diego... rain? Usually mutually exclusive words. It also rained the day I bought the car. Maybe it is good luck like rain on your wedding day or something.

Congrats on the car, picked up my 14 two weeks ago and love it. I'm doing sway bars and cosmetic mods for now. Tuning can wait for a year or two, give autox a try. It's a blast and not to hard on the car
