Opti-Coat is not a wax or sealant like other products on the market. It is a ceramic clear coating very similar to factory type clear coats. A layer of Opti-Coat measures approx. 2 microns in thickness, or about 100 times thicker than your typical wax or sealant. Unlike paint protection sealants such as PTFE, Nano Sealants, GlassPlexin that degrade over time and are easily removed through washing with water or chemicals, Opti-Coat does not degrade and cannot be removed by chemicals such as heavy duty truck wash or even caustic degreasers. It is totally resistant to these chemicals and produces a permanent film that is chemically bonded with the factory paint layers. Opti-Coat is effectively the vehicles new outer clear coat. It is far more resistant to chemical etching than factory clear coats and far more resistant than competing paint protection sealants. The 2 micron layer also provides a thick buffer between any damage and the factory paintwork.

Do you have opti coat on your car? Recommend it I assume? I'm hoping to get my car up to pro auto detail in North Andover for full detail, scratch and chip repair and opti coat. I just have to convince myself that a $900 detailing bill is okay. They do phenomenal work though so I'm sure I'll be very happy.

@ FasTrack now getting aligned after my suspension/wheels were done this weekend.

I died. But maybe that's not such a bad deal considering you're getting a detail job and a repair job in one?

I was just considering the $80 Groupon for an interior and exterior detail, but they don't do the chip repairs. Oh well, maybe I can convince my buddy to use his million dollar buffer for his Merc on my lowly Subaru.

That $900 detailing sounds good for my car's battle scars. But on the other hand $80 sounds much more wallet friendly with 1/10 of the satisfaction as the $900 one

That's what I was thinking. My car's not even dirty on the inside, but it would be nice to have the carpets shampoo'd and the seats sucked clean of the filth of the previous owner. The rest I can use my touch-up paint for..

The Groupon is for Tony's Recon in Peabody and expires October 2014

Stupid previous owners and their cigarette burn holes and somehow managing to get the bumper hit by every single rock/pebble on the East Coast. I'll look into the detail, maybe it will hide some of the many blemishes

Opticoat is definitely worth it I had it before on my black 328i it just gets slightly dusty and you spray water on it the car looks shiny clean! And Andrew it basically weighs nothing to my knowledge anyway

Yikes! Technically you can clean the engine bay that way, but you should cover certain things up before you start going at it with water... And not such a good idea while the engine is still hot. I still wouldn't though. I just dust things off and clean while I'm under there every once in a while to prevent buildup in the first place. Less grime = less heat = happy engine. Even the pros use steam to do that and not running water or pressure washers and they STILL cover certain things up.

And Karan, general rule of thumb with detailing is that if you can't feel it with your finger then it should come off with compound like a scratch remover and wax.
