Well, Thanks to DNA Performance for the Muffler Delete. I have put over 200 miles on this thing. 150 highway and 50 in the city. I have a Sport Premium CVT.

Let us begin with the installation. It is pretty straight forward. Two rusty bolts hold in stock muffler. There was some struggling to get those bad boys loose and off. Next, I sprayed the rubber hangers connected to the car with some soapy water. I pushed the rubber hangers into the car then sprayed. It makes it pre-lubricated before pulling it off the bead. I started on the driver side, the side with one hanger. Pull off the rubber hanger completely. And then moved onto the other side. Finally, install the Muffler delete. Simple.

Upon start-up there is a nice mild rumble, not like the old UEL Impreza but slight. Not too overly loud and obnoxious like a 16 year old fast and the furious civic. Not like it at all, it is a deep rumbling gurgle. During the 150 mile highway cruise, at 65 mph it is hardly noticeable, pretty quiet. Making it pretty easy to live with on long road trips. In the the city or when accelerating, it is not quiet. Obviously there is no muffler. One thing to note is the drone. When cruising at highway speeds, if kept in M mode and trying to moderately pass or climb a hill there is some drone. Not too bad though. But if it is kept in D when accelerating to pass or climb the hill, the transmission will select the proper ratio and out of the "drone zone", which prevent droning. In conclusion, it is a cheap and easy alternative to giving the 2.0i Impreza a sporty sound.

I'll be making about five more the weekend of the 22nd of November. Those would probably be the last depending if people like them or not. There is two people who already sent me emails about wanting one, you are safe. Well I hope to see a good response from people. By the way thanks for the review ans2K.

I think its even easier then that.

It would be close to a straight pipe from the flange to the tip. The sedan muffler sits parallel to the car (long-ways), unlike the wagon, and exits out of a cut-out in the bumper.

No, But if you send me pictures of the area under the rear bumper, with a ruler, I might be able to make some. Well, actually I am in the middle of moving, so, for right know all research and develpment is on pause, my garage should be back up and running in about a week, maybe just in time for everyone to get their Christmas packages.

I unbolted my muffler and drove around a bit last night. It sounded great although a bit loud at times in the cabin. Maybe loud because hatchback? Will a muffler delete pipe reduce that at all? Maybe I need a shorty muffler instead? I'd like that throaty burble without any drone.

Nice, I sugest to cut the end flush with the ground, less drone, I tried like 20 different things on the one I am developing, it looks a little different now, actually I will post a picture tomorrow of the evolved down pipe, after ans2k mention slight drone, I think I was able to reduce it, and at the same time make it slightly louder, not overly abnousious, just slightly louder.

Default Update

To everyone who got a private message from me, Please send me your Name and Address so I can send you guys the muffler delete down pipe. It has evolved, so make sure you look at the picture tomorrow, so you can see if you still like it. It has evolved for the good, as per me, less drone and slightly louder, just slightly.

Yeah, I know it's rusty, that's because I made mine from scrap metal. But notice, straighter pipe means better air flow, and the noise is directed towards the back, not under, so the drone is lessened. It is all home made.

Ive been experimenting with the washer mod a bit. Turns out that 1 washer is just right volume/drone wise for me.

I did this muffler about 4-5 months ago. I loved it for about 1-2 weeks but the drone noise was just too much for my wife.....

I will take pictures of my creation. I also spray some metal protector on it. I can't remember the name brand of the spray but I will take a picture of everything I used.

If you find any solutions to get rid of that nagging drone noise let me know.

I also live in the Bay Area. (Alameda, CA) Not too far from you.

The drone comes from the reflection of the noise under the rear of the car, I cut mine parallel with the ground, this does two things, it opens the end wider, letting more lower tones out, making it feel louder, these tones overcome the higher pitch, and it also spreads the noise widers, in all directions, loosing the return to the cabin. I don't know, I just cut it and it worked ;D

Here is a pic of the two I made for the people who already sent me some help $$

So your saying if its pointed more toward the ground then its ok or is it the opposite?

Also, I sprayed the exhaust with High Heat Metal Primer by Rust-Oleum up to 2000 degrees.

Actually, I think is the actual materials I am using now. Don't remember exactly, but I think I am using .090 pipe, which could be preventing resonance. I know a lot about sound and frequency, so, pretty much all of the above.

Sorry DNA. It turns out that the single washer is the right amount to get a nice purr without too much noise. I'm old

And my wife didn't notice until she got irritated about something else
